Clerk - Physician Billing

Clerk needed to work in the Physician Billing department. This position will perform general clerical duties, such as copying and filing.

Duties:

  • Displays courtesy, tact, and diplomacy when dealing with employees, patients, physicians, and outside institutions. Refers matters outside scope of own duties to appropriate others as needed.
  • Maintains files of correspondence, payments received and other billing materials within the department, neatly and in appropriate sequence.
  • Maintain records of materials removed in accordance with established procedure.
  • Researches secondary claims, locates appropriate attachments and submits to proper payer in a timely manner.
  • Makes copies of correspondence, remittances and other materials as needed, including remittances to be followed-up, refunds, etc.
  • Open and distributes incoming mail and inter-office correspondence to appropriate recipients in a timely manner.
  • Sorts and distributes various reports to respective Billing/Follow-up representatives for payments.
  • Researches unprocessed mail returned as undeliverable for up to date address and forwards to respective Billing/Follow-up Representative.
  • Research insurance eligibility.
  • Handles shredding of all confidential information to be discarded.
  • Performs duties necessary to relieve receptionist, including answering phones, answering door, accepting incoming packages, sorting and distributing mail, using mail machines to prepare outgoing mail.
  • Perform other related duties as required and assigned.

Experience/Education:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • 1 year clerical experience in healthcare setting
