Pastor of Disciple Making

OVERVIEW

The Pastor of Disciple Making is responsible for championing the multiplication of interpersonal and intergenerational disciple making at Grace Community Church by building a culture of discipleship throughout the church. He will also be a part of the Sunday teaching team.

He is a spiritually mature believer in a vital, growing relationship with Jesus Christ expressed in a commitment to humble, servant leadership and possesses a heart for the local church and wider kingdom of God.

You are committed to fulfilling the mission and ministry goals of Grace Community Church by collaborating with staff and volunteer teams.  You are passionate about disciple making, shepherding adults in their walks with Christ to be disciples who make disciples.  You are authentic, constantly learning and growing in your own personal walk with Christ.  You are thoughtful, desiring to help people take steps towards Christ and grow as a disciple. You are skilled at handling the word of God and have a mastery of creating sermons and preaching. You derive great joy in shepherding God's people and equipping the saints for the work of ministry through teaching the word.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Disciple Making

• Oversight and integration of the discipleship pathway into the body of believers at Grace.
• Assist believers and seekers in taking the next step in the discipleship pathway at Grace.
• Build and oversee teams with the expressed purpose of leading disciple making practices and multiplying disciple makers.
  • Alpha
    • Recruit hospitality team
    • Recruit and train leaders for Alpha groups both in homes and on-site
  • Foundations of Discipleship class
    • Recruit and train team of huddle leaders
    • Coordinate teachers for the 10-week class
    • Train and support volunteer coordinator
  • Develop a strategy to multiply disciple making relationships at Grace.
  • Train and mobilize church members to engage in personal discipling relationships, implementing fresh ideas for discipleship.
  • Mobilize believers into their unique serving team and/or mission field.
  • Oversee the “Marks” content being offered throughout the year.
    • Ensure regular offerings of our “Marks” content.
    • Select and train those who will help teach the “Marks” content.
    • Collaborate with other ministries to offer “Marks” content in various modalities.
    • Oversee the implementation of EHS (Emotionally Healthy Spirituality) and EHR (Emotionally Healthy Relationships) classes.
  • Lead the Baptism classes and coordinate baptisms with the Weekend and Worship team.

Supervision

• Supervise the Spiritual Formation Pastor/Director that will assume some of the responsibilities for carrying out a discipleship culture. This could include prayer, EHS and EHR classes, and spiritual retreats.

Pastoral Responsibilities

• Officiate weddings and funerals as necessary.
• Make visitations and give pastoral care as necessary.
• Serve in the rotation for pastor on call.
• Teach as part of the Sunday teaching team.

COMPETENCIES

• Effective communication to audiences of varying sizes in a variety of formats (staff, workshops, team training, Sunday morning)
• Strategic thinking to lead the church in disciple making and scalable leadership to work together in this endeavor.
• Experience in pastoral and care responsibilities (funerals, weddings, care)
• Proven ability to teach and train.
• Proven ability to build healthy, diverse teams.
• In-depth understanding of Gospel fluency and its function in sanctification
• Practices Emotionally Healthy Discipleship
• Seminary degree (e.g., MDiv, Biblical Studies)
• 3-5 years of vocational ministry experience within a church setting

SCHEDULE

• 1x Per Week – Meet with Executive Pastor
• 1x Per Week – Attend the weekly All Staff Meetings on Tuesday mornings
• 1x Per Week – Attend the weekly All Staff Prayer Pause
• 1x Per Week – Attend Pastors Meeting
• 1x Per month- Meet with Lead Pastor
• 1x Per Year – Participate in the All-Staff Retreat, typically in June
• Christmas Eve + Easter Sunday Gatherings
• On-site on Sundays for all gatherings
• Initiate / attend project specific meetings, departmental meetings as needed
• Attend evening commitments as needed (e.g., Alpha)

• Reports to Executive Pastor
• Supervises Prayer and Spiritual Formation Pastor/Director
• Meets with Lead Pastor on a regular basis
• Works closely with volunteer leaders for the various ministry teams working with discipleship initiatives
