Under the direct supervision of the Facilities Manager, Grounds Keeper will work closely with a team of maintenance technicians, janitors, and facilities management. Incumbent will be responsible for performing seasonal grounds duties including leaf-raking, mulch replacement; snow and ice removal, composting; seeding and aeration of turf. The incumbent will also be responsible for maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness keeping order throughout including; sweeping and maintenance around all buildings, benches, entry ways, parking lots, and throughout the property of the Nottawaseppi Huron Band of the Potawatomi.

**ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS**

The Nottawaseppi Huron Band of the Potawatomi reserves the right to change, amend, add, delete, and otherwise assign any and all duties, responsibilities and position titles as it deems necessary to meet the needs of the government.
- Cleans grounds and removes litter.
- Responsible for mowing of lawns, weed whacking, leaf removal, pruning, storm drain clearing, and landscape weeding, repairs, planting, and related landscape maintenance.
- Responsible for snow removal on government paved walkways and selected parking lot area surfaces. Spreads salt on public passageways to prevent ice buildup, as necessary.
- Preparation and effective and safe use of herbicides to prevent weed growth according to NHBP policies and procedures.
- Responsible for daily upkeep of the property buildings and grounds which includes cleaning and removing of trash.
- Responsible for reporting unusual or out of the ordinary conditions or circumstances regarding the property or equipment to management immediately.
- Be knowledgeable and operate within OSHA (Occupational Safety & Health Act) standards and company safety policies at all times.
- Responsible for some minor general maintenance work.
- Assists with set up, tear down, and staffing for Tribal Events.
- Will be required to move and transport furniture, materials, and equipment as needed.
- Assists with janitorial duties as needed.
- Assists with trash removal, recycling operations and transporting recycled items as necessary.
- Inspect, clean, and report concerns with, equipment used in the performance of their duties.
- Researches and recommends new plants and plantings for the Reservation.
- Assists supervisor with determining work projects, long-range plans and potential cost projections for proposed projects or equipment.
- Maintains appropriate records and use of computer to research, update, gather, and organize necessary information, as required.
- Able to communicate effectively in both written and verbal format.
- Properly and safely operates DPW equipment such as chain saws, scissor lift, tractor, Toolcat, Skid-steer loader and the use associated attachments for the equipment items identified.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

- Must possess a High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Must be able to successfully pass a background check and drug test; must not have been found guilty of, or pled guilty or no contest to, any felony
