SATCOM RF ENGINEER

We are seeking a SATCOM RF Engineer to utilize engineering best practices to design, develop, and implement end-to-end RF solutions for ground terminals and satellite ground systems.  The RF Engineer will additionally design and implement SDR based solutions for custom waveforms and modulation/demodulation techniques.   

Additionally, the RF Engineer will work with industry leading companies developing electronically steerable arrays (ESAs), multi-band antennas, and distributed antenna systems.  The RF Engineer will lead complex RF centric projects, to include issuing RFPs for unique, customized solutions. 

The position is part of a team that ensures the effective design, implementation, control, and configuration of a global satellite communications networks including globally deployed satellite earth stations with high-speed network connectivity. 

Responsibilities

·       Design and develop complex ground segment systems, i.e., earth stations and teleports

·       Design and implement space segment solutions, to include link budget analysis for complex spread spectrum, massive site solutions

·       Design and development of RF devices from concept, design, validation, to full production for satellite communication systems

·       Work closely with RF sensor and antenna companies to translate system requirements into innovative designs suitable for remote sensing and communication applications

·       Design and implementation oversight for advanced phased array systems

·       Construct hardware prototypes and testing

·       Provide frequency selection assistance and perform spectral surveys

Education and Experience

·       Bachelor’s Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, Math or related area and five (5) years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience

·       Have working knowledge of RF theory and experience developing RF link performance

·       Extensive knowledge of and experience with configuration of RF parameters and how changing each parameter affects satcom link performance 

·       Knowledge of antenna design and testing (antenna focusing, RF patterns, crosspol measurements, G/T, etc.)

·       ·Demonstrated experience in RF systems design, including architecture definition, stability analysis, noise and power budget analysis, non-linear response analysis, component selection, and qualification

·       Knowledge of GEO, MEO and LEO satellite operators, modem technologies and terminal manufacturers

·       Knowledge of phased array theory and ESA implementation

·       Must be a self-starter with leadership capabilities and execution of roles and responsibilities with little to no supervision

·       Must be able to influence others and move toward a common vision or goal
