Position Summary 

The Development Specialist is responsible for implementing work plans that result in the achievement of council goals and strategies.   Responsible for developing relationships with prospective donors in the Lakes and Pines for the purpose of cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding gifts to ensure sustainability and growth in charitable contributions. The focus is on generating income by developing strategic partnerships with businesses, corporations, private funders, and United Way.

 

The Development Specialist also collaborates with regional and functional teams to promote the Girl Scout Leadership Experience, support membership growth, to achieve council’s goals/strategy.

 

Responsibilities including but not limited to: 

1.      Engage with individual donors, corporations, foundations, planned giving programs, and major contributors to source and secure philanthropic donations; cultivate ongoing relationships with current and past donors. 

2.      Maintains compliance with approved departmental budgets in compliance with approved guidelines and maintains accurate financial records. 

3.      Coordinate and participate in site visits of corporate and foundation staff and volunteers across all regions of the council. Engages in developing foundation program officers and implementing solicitation strategies. 

4.      Gain a comprehensive understanding of the Girl Scouts’ leadership program design to clearly communicate the virtues of the organization to all stakeholders. 

5.      Analyze council and market data to incorporate Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Racial Justice into funding proposals, ensuring service and representation. 

6.      Conduct research, drafts solicitation letters, grant applications, and submit assigned funding proposals that align with current Girl Scout programming and branding. 

7.      Provide research of prospective donors for specified areas of fund development to meet or exceed fundraising goals. 

8.      Work with community volunteers and council staff to plan, implement, and meet fundraising campaign initiatives and goals. 

9.      Establish and maintain a presence in identified communities to increase the council’s visibility. 

10.  Assist with alumnae engagement initiatives by identifying, tracking, and connecting with Girl Scout alumnae. 

11.  Implement activities and special events to increase donor development and stewardship, as assigned by the Director of Development. 

12.  Ensure timely and accurate donor communications that promote the goals and mission of Girl Scouts Lakes and Pines, including addressing any donor concerns, requests, and gift administration. 

13.  Handle sensitive or confidential donor information, communications, and public relations issues in a professional manner. 

14.  Collaborate in developing and executing approved comprehensive fundraising strategies to secure sufficient funding that meets all the council's goals and objectives. 

15.  Responsible for communicating, implementing, and enforcing fundraising policies, procedures and practices that comply with all applicable council and GSUSA standards, as well as local, state, and federal laws, regulations and ordinances related to fund development. 

16.  Maintain and follow an approved work plan with grants calendar to ensure the timely submission of proposals and outlining clear processes to achieve funding goals.

17.  Know and be responsible for all agency policies, guidelines, and procedures; regularly report on individual goals and achievements to the Director of Development. 

18.  Special Projects and other duties as assigned by the Director of Development.      

 

Essential Functions 

 

·         Ability to gather, analyze, record and report data timely and accurately.  

·         Ability to successfully complete all pre-employment and post-employment screenings including, but not limited to, background check. 

·         Knowledge of basic business terminology, financial matters and the ethical, legal,   and tax-related issues regarding the solicitation, transfer, and management of charitable gifts. 

·         Proficient in Windows Operating Systems and Microsoft Office Suite with the ability to manage database information, produces reports, and analyzes data.

·         Ability to learn and effectively utilize current council systems for donor management and customer relationship management. 

·         Demonstrate superior project management skills by independently coordinating activities, communicating with stakeholders, and executing projects in order to consistently deliver high-quality results in a timely manner. 

·         Ability to draft, teach, model, follow, maintain, and execute approved goals/strategies. 

·         Ability to always follow and maintain safe working practices. 

·         Ability to frequently operate office equipment including keyboard, copy machine, and multi-line telephone  

·         Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds 

·        Ability to make decisions by applying independent discretion within the boundaries of the position  

·         Maintain registration as a member of the Girl Scouts of the USA 

·         Possess and retention of a valid driver’s license and vehicle insurance  

·         Ability to provide your own transportation  

·         Ability to travel to various event and activities, including overnights 

·         Ability to work various days and hours including weekends and evenings 

·         Ability to develop appropriate written communication and to verbally present

information to large and small groups  

·         Ability to remain current on fund development techniques and philanthropy 

Ability to represent and model the mission and vision of Girl Scouts of Minnesota and Wisconsin Lakes and Pines.

 

Qualifications:  

·      Bachelor’s degree business or related field and/or equivalent of (1) year fund development experience with a focus on foundation and corporate giving. 

·      A minimum of (1) year proven experience in securing financial support from individuals, foundations, and corporations with gifts and/or pledges from current and prospective donors through identification, cultivation, solicitation, retention, and stewardship to meet and/or exceed funding goals. 

·      A Minimum of (1) year of development and execution of funding goals/ strategies which support Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Racial Justice.   

·         Knowledge of basic business terminology, financial matters and the ethical, legal, and tax-related issues regarding the solicitation, transfer, and management of charitable gifts. 

·         High proficiency in Windows Operating Systems and Microsoft Office Suite with the ability to manage database information, produce reports, and analyze data. 

·         Advanced skills in customer service and a commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Racial Justice.

·      Excellent judgement with the ability to work independently and manage multiple projects and deadlines. 

·      Proven experience in formal business writing
