Songhai Construction, LLC, is a construction company specializing in highway and heavy construction. Our leadership team has over 60 years of combined experience, and we are looking for a responsible individual to fill a new entry-level Construction Inspector position on several highway construction projects in the Seven County Minneapolis/St. Paul metropolitan area.

Overall Responsibilities include the following:

Learn and perform onsite construction inspection, testing and documentation on several State Projects. The inspector will be learning from and working in conjunction with State Construction inspector's, State Project, Managers, and the Metro Advancing Equity team during construction season. The inspector will begin by "job-shadowing" State Construction inspector's to learn on-site construction inspection, material measuring, and recording of contract pay items.

Specific Duties include but are not limited to the list below:

· Attend construction meetings necessary for close coordination during day-to-day progress of the work or as required to carry out the construction contract.

· Learn the standard construction practices of the State, the construction plans and construction contract, and the construction contractor's proposed schedule.

· Conduct concrete certification tests to ensure the quality and safety of the work of concrete contractors, in coordination with State's Chief inspector.

· Conduct on-site construction inspection during construction activities.

· Inspect pilings and reinforcing steel.

· Obtain, document and file test report records or certificates of compliance for materials incorporated into the project.

· Provide the results of certification testing, results of field inspection, and the results of measuring pay items to the State's Chief inspector and/or State's Project Engineer/Supervisor.

· Provide construction inspection, construction material testing and construction documentation over 40 hours per week including nights, weekends and holidays as necessary to accommodate the construction contractor's construction schedule.

· Perform field operations in accordance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations and State safety directives.

· Maintain on a daily basis a complete and accurate record of all activities and events relating to the project and a record of all work completed by the construction contractor in the form of a daily construction inspection diary.

· Learn computer applications for entering both construction diaries into a database and contract pay items into a database.

· Perform daily reviews of construction signage, detour signs, and construction traffic control maintenance. Notify supervisor of any corrective action needed.

· Perform reviews of temporary and permanent erosion control measures on the project for compliance with applicable permits and specifications. Contractor will keep a diary of reviews and recommendations made to the construction contractor for remedial action to be taken. Certification in Erosion Control installer/inspector is desired.

· Keep required records that will have to delivered to the State:

o Daily construction diary

o Notes, logs, accounts, and calculations regarding measurements of contract pay items.

o Construction plans and special provisions provided by State for use by the inspector.

o Material certifications and testing results.

Qualifications Desired:

Successful candidates will have the following qualifications:

· Ability to communicate clearly orally and in writing.

· Ability to use computer and learn new software required by position.

· High school diploma or GED, or higher, or equivalent related experience.

· Willingness to work extended hours when needed.

Also helpful will be familiarity with the construction industry and related safety practices.
