This role will support quality and production activities within our operations. Here is some additional information about this opportunity:

The Metrology Technician plays an integral part in providing calibration, inspection, and meaningful feedback across multiple departments at the Precision Parts facility. This position is responsible for maintaining precision measurement equipment, CMM programming online and offline, providing complete inspection layouts for existing, new and revised tooling, making recommendations for gauging, and performing maintenance and verification of inspection equipment. Candidate must be a self-motivated team player, detail oriented, and punctual.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:

  1. This position Directly reports to: Metrology Supervisor and/or Engineering Manager.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND AUTHORITIES:

The responsibilities and authorities for this position include, but are certainly not limited to:

  1. Provide Quality, Design, or Engineering with precise data during Initial sampling as required.
  2. Review engineering drawings, Customer specifications and Other referenced resources (ANSI, ASME, ISO standards, etc.) to determine appropriate inspection methods.
  3. Appropriately communicate issues with engineering drawings (GD&T), Customer specifications and Other referenced resources when noted.
  4. Program Online and Offline Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) using Engineering Drawings and / or Solid CAD Models.
    1. Touch probe
    2. Scanning Probe
  5. Program Vision Measuring Machine (Vision System, VMM).
  6. Can perform daily, monthly, annual maintenance and verifications of inspection equipment.
    1. Automated Equipment.
    2. Manual Equipment.
    3. Computer systems.
  7. Provide complete inspection layouts for new and revised tooling using basic through advanced inspection and math skills.
  8. Work with Quality, Design, or Engineering on new and existing projects as assigned or required.
  9. Provide Engineering, Tooling, Inspection, and Production Departments with Statistical Process Control (SPC) data, tool, and process capability analysis as assigned.
  10. Review the following reports, if performed by others, as necessary:
    1. Accuracy of ISIR Reports.
    2. Accuracy of GR&R reports.
    3. Accuracy of Capability Study reports.
  11. Perform correlation of samples between customer and Plasman.
  12. Train Quality Inspectors, Production Operators and Supervisors in uses of gauges and execution of CMM Programs.
  13. Train Metrology Technicians in advance inspection techniques.
    1. Train Metrology Technicians, Quality Inspectors and others as needed; in correct use of hand tools (Caliper, Micrometer) and automated equipment (CMM, Vision System, ect.).
    2. Knowledge sharing of programming, equipment, engineering drawings to include GD&T.
    3. Other duties as assigned.

The Metrology Technician is responsible for complying with the Company Health & Safety Program including Occupational Health & Safety Legislation, regulations, standards and Company Health & Safety policies. The employee must have a safety mindset.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND/OR DESIGNATION REQUIREMENTS:

This position requires the following minimum education qualifications:

1. High School Diploma or equivalent or experience stated in next section

MINIMUM WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Minimum of 18 months of work experience in related field. Must have basic experience using hand tools, measurement techniques, and demonstrated ability to apply independent judgment. Requires computer skills in Microsoft Office, data entry, formula construction, data imports, SPC Charting, and to prepare and interpret long and short-term capability studies. CMM experience required

MINIMUM TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Must be familiar and comfortable with use of hand tools.
  2. Must be proficient in the use of trigonometry and basic measurement techniques.
  3. Understanding of advanced engineering drawings and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) symbols.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Extensive degree of mental and/or visual attention is required.
  2. Must be able to understand basic engineering blueprints.
  3. Must be a critical thinker and possess problem-solving skills.
  4. Must be familiar with Microsoft Office and capable of performing accurate data entry.
  5. Must be a team player.
  6. Ability to handle various tasks.
  7. Able to lift 50 pounds, and combination of standing, walking and sitting during the shift
