POSITION INFORMATION

Position Title: Paralegal

Residency Requirement: Must reside in a city or incorporated town limit to be employed by Arkansas Municipal League.

Job Duties:

  1. Draft and file legal documents such as briefs, motions, appeals, contracts, and other legal documents and pleadings for review, approval, and use by counsel.
  2. Draft and review routine written discovery requests and responses.
  3. Perform clerical duties such as scheduling appointments/depositions/meetings; maintaining attorney’s calendar; saving, redacting, Bates-stamping, filing, and mailing documents; providing updates or case information to clients, creating physical case files, folders, and binders as necessary; drafting routine correspondence; reading, routing, and responding to incoming mail; typing and/or transcribing documents such as pro se discovery requests; and compiling and submitting expense reports for various defense expenses.
  4. Gather and investigate factual evidence for initial client meetings, discovery, motions, and trial preparation, etc.
  5. Perform routine acquisition and organization of information from various private and public entities such as courts, EEOC, CLEST, SSA, DHS, Arkansas Office of Driver Services, healthcare providers, educational facilities, various employers, law enforcement agencies, and others. 
  6. Communicate with clients, opposing counsel, courts, court reporters, and other entities regarding scheduling, discovery, appeals, expert witnesses, and other various issues.
  7. Attend client meetings, hearings, depositions, and trials as requested.
  8. Assist in all aspects of preparation for trials and appeals.
  9. Research and analyze law sources such as state and federal statutes and constitutions, court opinions, legal articles, treatises, AG opinions, and legal codes and ordinances.
  10. Other duties that may be assigned. 

 Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and two years of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Paralegal certification preferred but not required.

Other Skills & Abilities: Must be proficient in use off personal computer and thorough knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other related software.
