Position Overview: The LGBTQ Housing Navigator will provide comprehensive housing services and support to LGBTQ+ individuals and families experiencing housing instability or homelessness. The advocate will work to ensure that clients have access to safe, stable, and affordable housing, and will assist them in navigating the complexities of the housing system.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive housing assessments to determine clients' needs and eligibility for various housing programs.
  • Assist clients in locating, securing, furnishing, and maintaining appropriate housing.
  • Provide crisis intervention and support to clients experiencing housing instability or homelessness.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with local landlords, housing providers, and community organizations to facilitate housing placements.
  • Advocate on behalf of clients to ensure they receive fair and equitable treatment in the housing market.
  • Provide information and referrals for additional support services, such as employment, healthcare, and legal assistance.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate records of client interactions and progress.
  • Participate in community outreach and education activities to raise awareness of LGBTQ+ housing issues.
  • Collaborate with other In Our Own Voices team members to coordinate services and support for clients.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Human Services, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Proven experience working with LGBTQ+ individuals and communities, particularly those of color.
  • Knowledge of housing resources and programs, as well as fair housing laws and tenant rights.
  • Strong advocacy skills and the ability to navigate complex systems.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Commitment to the mission and values of In Our Own Voices, Inc.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Social Work, Human Services, or a related field.
  • Two or more years of experience in housing advocacy or a related field.
  • Experience working with survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, or other trauma.
  • Familiarity with local housing markets and resources.

Skills:

  • Crisis intervention and conflict resolution.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to think creatively and strategically to solve problems.
  • Proficiency in data collection and reporting.
  • Sensitivity to and understanding of the unique challenges faced by LGBTQ+ individuals and families.
