We are seeking a Metal Shop Fabricator/Door Shop Worker to become a part of our team

Door Shop personnel are responsible for Grinding and preparing frames to fulfill contractors’ orders from Houston-Starr Company. The position will grow to include preparing doors, and installing hardware, while working in a manufacturing-type environment. This is precision work and includes the use of surface grinders, saws, punches, welders, and other equipment. There will be times when the shop person will need be a machine operator on the shop equipment, and also pull raw material needed for orders from the warehouse The shop person must also know how to read and interpret templates and construction drawings. Forklift operator experience is also a plus. This position is also responsible for keeping the shop neat and clean. This is a daylight position with no overnight hours.

Responsibilities:

The Door Shop worker is an on-going, evolving position. Duties may be added, removed, or modified as seen fit by the management of HSC.

  • Performs modifications to metal frames, doors, and hardware as indicated on work orders.
  • Reads and interprets drawings and templates.
  • Retrieves work from warehouse stock to fill work orders.
  • Advises and assisst Project Managers in best methods to use in specialty preparations.
  • Keeps work area neat and free of safety hazards.
  • Assists in pulling and loading counter sales pick-ups.
  • Assists in the overall maintenance of the shop.
  • Keeps all tools in good working order.
  • Completes all paperwork required with the work order.
  • Makes occasional jobsite visits to evaluate job conditions.
  • Operates fork truck as required.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
  • Ability and willingness to lift to 100 lbs.
  • Ability to work on their feet for long periods of time
  • Experience using hand tools
  • Welding/grinding experience a plus
  • Auto body repair work a plus

  • Quality and timeliness of work
  • Ability to work well with team
  • Adherence to safety standards

Work Schedule: 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM

Salary Range:

  • $17.00-$18.00/hr. Negotiated rate per union contract
  • Paid every two weeks

Benefits:

  • Full-time benefits as negotiated with union

Additional factors:

  • Must pass criminal background check.
  • Must pass drug screening.
  • Ability to work overtime required.
