Job Description

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated MLL (Multilingual Language Learner) Teacher to join our team. The MLL Teacher will be responsible for providing English language instruction to students whose primary language is not English, helping them develop their language skills and achieve proficiency in English.


Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver engaging MLL lessons that are tailored to the needs and proficiency levels of individual students and small groups.

• Create a supportive and inclusive learning environment where students feel comfortable practicing their English language skills and expressing themselves.

• Assess students' language abilities using appropriate assessment tools and techniques and use the results to inform instruction and track progress.

• Develop and implement instructional strategies and activities that promote language acquisition, including listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills.

• Incorporate culturally relevant content and materials into lessons to make language learning meaningful and relevant to students' lives.

• Collaborate with colleagues, administrators, and parents to support students' language development and academic success.

• Provide feedback to students on their language proficiency and academic performance and offer guidance and support for improvement.

• Stay current with research and best practices in MLL instruction and participate in professional development opportunities to enhance teaching skills and knowledge.

• Maintain accurate records of student attendance, progress, and achievement, and communicate regularly with stakeholders about student performance and needs.

• Adhere to all relevant policies, procedures, and regulations governing MLL instruction and student support services.

• Knowledgeable in the administration of the NYSTELL and NYSESLAT assessments

• Ensure accurate and timely regulatory compliance deadlines

• Be flexible for cross-campus assignments


Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Education, ESL, TESOL, Linguistics, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).

• Valid New York State teaching certification or eligibility for certification through an alternative pathway.

• Previous experience teaching MLL or working with English language learners in a diverse educational setting.

• Strong knowledge of English language structure, grammar, and vocabulary, as well as second language acquisition.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, colleagues, and families.

• Flexibility, adaptability, and creativity in designing and delivering effective MLL instruction that meets the diverse needs of students.

• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and contribute to a positive and supportive school culture.

• Commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion, and the ability to create an environment where all students feel valued and respected.

• Proficiency in languages other than English may be an asset, depending on the student population served.
