Director of Events & Community Relations - Ignite Positive Change

Status: Non-Exempt, Full-Time   

Reports to: Executive Director 

Salary: $26.31-$28.63 per hour 

Location: Oceanside, CA

This role is based in Southern California, specifically in Oceanside, CA (North San Diego County). It is located inside a miliary base installation. Base access is provided to civilian employees.

Join us as the Director of Events & Community Relations at Armed Services YMCA Under the guidance of the Executive Director, you'll lead the charge in organizing unforgettable service events and impactful community outreach initiatives that drive our mission forward.

Who you are:

As the Director of Events & Community Relations at Armed Services YMCA, you will be at the forefront of creating meaningful experiences through service events, community outreach, and special projects. Service events include family dances, gown giveaways, holiday events for Thanksgiving and Christmas, and donor recognition events. You will play a pivotal role in elevating our mission and expanding our reach within the military community. What will you do:

Craft Exceptional Events:

  • Curate and manage all aspects of all service events, collaborating with passionate volunteers and assisting the development team in securing event sponsors.
  • Develop dynamic action plans with the Executive Director and Committee Chair, ensuring event success.

Community Empowerment:

  • Foster meaningful relationships with funding sources, community organizations, and influential leaders, amplifying our positive community impact.
  • Be the driving force behind our branch sponsorship program, engaging businesses and organizations to champion our initiatives.

Strategic Communication:

  • Create and implement communication and outreach strategies that resonate with our diverse military constituents.
  • Weave marketing magic for each special event/project, painting a compelling narrative and inspiring action.

Budget Guardian:

  • Assist in the creation of the annual budget for service events and community outreach initiatives, using your keen eye to track performance and steer us towards our budgetary goals.

What experience and skills you will need to be successful: 

Superpowers You Bring:

  • A minimum of 5 years of event planning experience for high school graduates, or a Bachelor’s degree in relevant fields and 3 years of event planning experience for graduates.
  • Impeccable interpersonal skills, diplomacy, and a knack for conflict resolution - you're the peacekeeper and the party planner
  • A strategic and creative thinker, comfortably bringing innovative ideas to fruition.

Your Toolbox:

  • Expertise in writing, editing, proofreading, layout/design, and effective communication - you’re a wordsmith and an artist.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate seamlessly on multiple projects, all while keeping a laser focus on details.
