Position: Medical Lab Scientist
Duration: 6+ months with possibilities of extension
Location: Austin, TX
Shift: 1st Shift, Monday through Friday, 7 am - 4 pm / 8 am - 5 pm
Note:
- Bachelor of Science degree or bachelor’s in medical technology or associate’s degree in MLT with relevant experience preferred.
- Generalist experience preferred – No blood bank experience required.
- ASCP or AMT certification/license preferred and NOT required.
Summary:
The main function of a travel technician is to travel to different locations and perform routine medical laboratory tests for the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disease.
Job Responsibilities:
- Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria.
- Perform routine and complex technical procedures and functions according to departmental Standard Operating Procedures.
- Monitor, operate and troubleshoot instrumentation to ensure proper functionality.
- Demonstrate the ability to make technical decisions regarding testing and problem solving.
- Prepare, test, and evaluate new reagents or controls.
- Report accurate and timely test results to deliver quality patient care.
- Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures.
- Identify and replenish testing bench supplies, as necessary.
- Assist with processing of specimens when needed.
- Maintain a safe work environment and wear appropriate personal protective equipment.
Requirements:
- Bachelor of Science degree or meet local regulatory (CLIA & State) requirements.
- Previous Generalist experience including blood bank, Chemistry, Hematology, Urinalysis and COAG preferred.
- ASCP or AMT certification is preferred.
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
- Proficient with computers; Familiarity with laboratory information systems is a plus.
- High level of attention detail along with strong communication and organizational skills.
*Offered pay rate will be based on education, experience, and healthcare credentials.
