Job DescriptionJob Description

1st Choice is seeking an Auditor III to examine and verify City agency accounts for conformance to accounting standards and governmental fiscal practices and procedures. Work of this class involves no supervisory duties or responsibilities. Incumbents will receive moderate supervision from a technical superior. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge:

  • Accounting and Auditing Principles: Strong understanding of accounting and auditing principles, standards, and best practices.
  • Municipal Accounting: Familiarity with the specific requirements and regulations of municipal accounting.

Skills:

  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to effectively convey complex information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Supervision: Ability to assign, review, and provide feedback on the work of auditing and office support personnel.
  • Audit Report Writing: Proficiency in writing and compiling comprehensive audit reports that accurately document findings, recommendations, and conclusions.
  • Relationship Building: Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, agency representatives, and external stakeholders.

Abilities:

  • Analytical Thinking: Ability to analyze financial data, identify trends, and assess compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to identify and resolve complex accounting and auditing issues effectively.
  • Attention to Detail: Meticulous attention to detail to ensure accuracy and completeness in all work products.
  • Adaptability: Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work environments.



Education: Bachelor's degree in accounting from an accredited college or university.
AND Experience: 4 years of experience performing auditing work.
OR Equivalent Education and Experience:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Accounting Courses: 27 semester hours, including at least 3 semester hours each in auditing, cost accounting, and U.S. federal income tax; and a minimum of 9 semester hours in financial accounting.
  • Business-Related Courses: 33 semester hours, including 6 semester hours of economics and 3 semester hours each in statistics, computer science, information systems or data processing, corporate or business finance, management, business law, marketing, written communication, oral communication, and business ethics.

OR Alternate Qualification: Current certification as a Maryland CPA or an authorized approval letter of eligibility to sit for the Maryland CPA Examination from the Maryland Board of Public Accountancy.

EXAMINATION PROCESS
The examination will consist of a rating of your education, training, and experience as presented on your application and as they relate to the requirements of the position. You may be required to complete supplemental questions to further examine specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities of the position. Therefore, it is important that you provide complete and accurate information on your application.
