Marcum Search has been retained by our client, a reputable construction firm with a great culture, to search for their next Controller. Their team of professionals is dedicated to excellence, innovation, and sustainability.

This role is crucial for ensuring accurate financial reporting and effective management of our construction projects. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of percentage-of-completion (POC) accounting methods and strong analytical skills.

 

Responsibilities

•Oversee the financial aspects of construction projects, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting using the percentage-of-completion accounting method.

•Prepare and analyze financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.

•Collaborate with project managers to forecast project costs, revenues, and completion timelines.

•Maintain detailed project cost records, ensuring all costs are accurately captured and allocated.

•Monitor project budgets and provide variance analysis, identifying areas of concern and recommending corrective actions.

•Ensure compliance with all relevant accounting standards, regulations, and company policies.

•Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports and presentations for senior management.

•Conduct financial analysis to support decision-making and strategic planning.

•Coordinate with external auditors and provide necessary documentation and explanations during audits.

•Implement and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure the integrity of financial records.

 

Requirements

•Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA certification is highly preferred.

•Proven experience in construction accounting, with a strong focus on percentage-of-completion accounting methods.

•In-depth knowledge of accounting principles, standards, and regulations related to the construction industry.

•Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.

•Strong proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Sage, QuickBooks, Oracle) and advanced Excel skills.

•Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with project managers and other stakeholders.

•Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines.

•Demonstrated problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to identifying and addressing issues.

•Experience with financial forecasting and budgeting processes.

•Ability to adapt to a fast-paced and dynamic work environment.
