Overall responsibility includes facilitating and supervising daily operations of the store to ensure that all employees work together effectively to meet sales targets and grow revenue.

Responsibilities

  • Understand current store income and expenses to develop an operating budget for the financial year.
  • Analyze income statements and utilize reports to ensure the store’s profitability.
  • Forecast staffing needs and develop a recruiting strategy to provide optimal staffing in all areas.
  • Hire, train, and manage adequate staffing levels by allocating resources, delegating work, and effectively managing time through efficient scheduling to control labor costs.
  • Maintain proper inventory levels, ensure stocking, implement purchasing plans, and maintain contact with suppliers to ensure maximum efficiency in meeting sales goals.
  • Manage inventory to maximize sales, control costs and reduce waste; proactively recognize trends across the store.
  • Utilizes and improves Point of Sale (POS) system and manages cash in accordance with company policy and procedures. 
  • Drive sales and increase profitability through promotions and discount offerings.
  • Runs sales reports and records information about income and inventory levels.
  • Reviews Capital expenditure and justifications.
  • Manage shelf space for more product offerings and weekly ‘sale by date or expired produce or products.
  • Manage all controllable costs with a view to maintaining profitability.

Facility Management:

  • Enforces Standard Operating Procedures for Food, Health, and Safety standards.
  • Maintains a clean store in accordance with OSHA standards.
  • Demonstrates strong customer interfacing skills as well as problem solving skills.
  • Report promptly and document all guest and employee incidents in the appropriate time frame. 
  • Work with local authorities to obtain permits and attend inspections.
  • Install security cameras and implement security measures as determined necessary.
  • Coordinate with landscapers and other vendors to maintain the physical appearance of building.
  • Maintain schedules for regular equipment such as refrigeration, coolers, and freezers.

Skills and Qualifications

 

  • 6-8 years of previous experience in retail sales environment.
  • Previous experience in a Grocery store or Convenience store highly desired.
  • 5 years minimum experience in a management role.
  • 1-3 years of experience in a supervisory role performing hiring, coaching, and talent development.
  • Demonstrates excellent business sense, including a practical mindset, good math skills, and an understanding of both logistics and human resources.
  • Creative approach to market trends and generating business with limited resources.
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to motivate, reward success, and encourage growth.
  • Demonstrates problem solving skills, balancing excellent customer service with the company’s bottom line. 
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills to include written and verbal. 
  • Strong organizational and planning skills required.
  • Ability to operate POS system and computer programs such as Microsoft Outlook and Excel.
  • A valid Driver’s License is required. 
  • Ability to work a varying schedule of nights and weekends to fit store needs.

Education

 

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or Finance is strongly preferred, or equivalent years of experience.
  • Minimum of High School Diploma or GED.
  • Food Safety Certification preferred.
  • Previous experience using IT Retail a plus.
  • Previous experience using 7Shifts a plus.
