Role:

To approve or deny mortgage loans, following Credit Union standards.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

Reviews and evaluates information on mortgage loan documents to determine if buyer, property, and loan conditions meet Credit Union and government standards.

Approves or rejects loan application or requests additional information.

Evaluates acceptability of loan to corporation that buys real estate loans on secondary mortgage markets (where existing mortgages are bought and sold by investors).

Assembles documents in loan file, including acceptance or denial, and returns file to originating mortgage loan department.

Records loan rejection, specifying investor and Credit Union guidelines and basis for declining application.

Performs other job related duties as assigned.

Performance Measurements:

1.

To ensure Credit Union and government standards met at all times ensuring accuracy on all documents with minimal errors.

2.

To maintain a professional, courteous, and friendly atmosphere for members and co-workers.

3.

To underwrite new files weekly.

4.

To clear conditions on files weekly.

5.

To produce underwriting decisions within a timely manner.

6.

To ensure closing documents are in compliance with policies and procedures. All documents and insurance policies have been properly signed, endorsed and remain current in loan file with minimal errors.

7.

To demonstrate and maintain good working knowledge of Credit Union and government standards through continued research..

8.

To organize and complete member loan files within prescribed time frame.

9.

To maintain files in accordance with loan manual and record retention schedule.

Knowledge and Skills:

Experience

Three years to five years of similar or related experience.

Education

(1) A two-year college degree, or (2) completion of a specialized certification or licensing, or (3) completion of specialized training courses conducted by vendors, or (4) job-specific skills acquired through an apprenticeship program.

Interpersonal Skills

Motivating or influencing others is a material part of the job. Outside contacts become important and fostering sound relationships with other entities (companies and/or individuals) becomes necessary and often requires the ability to influence and/or sell ideas or services to others. The role requires a significant level of trust or diplomacy.

Other Skills

Must have good communication skills. 10-key calculator, typewriter, and keyboard skills.
