Position Summary:

The Director of Finance (Controller), will report to the CEO and participate on the executive team. This position is responsible for managing the company's financial actions and monitoring its overall performance. This position will engage in financial planning and oversee the company's finance and accounting functions.

The Director of Finance will play a role in strategic planning, identifying and investigating investment opportunities, and is intimately involved in policy development. Quarterly financial results and financial projections are presented during in-person quarterly meetings with the Board of Directors. This position will prepare and provide monthly financial results to the bank.


Key Responsibilities:

Strategy, Planning and Management

  • Assess and evaluate financial performance of organization with regard to long term operational goals, budgets and forecasts.
  • Identify, acquire and implement systems and software to provide critical financial and operational information. Evaluate departments and make suggestion for automating processes and increasing working efficiency.
  • Create and establish yearly financial objectives that align with the company’s plan for growth and expansion.

Financial Analysis, Budgeting and Forecasting

  • Prepare and present to Executive Team detailed monthly financial budgeting reports; monthly profit and loss by division, forecast vs. budget by division and weekly cash flow.
  • Identify, develop and execute analysis of business initiatives, product launches and/or new service offerings.
  • Develop and maintain monthly operating budget and annual company operating budget.
  • Manage financial planning and analysis. Supervise creation of reports, software implementation and tools for budgeting and forecasting.

Accounting, General Ledger, Administration and Operations

  • Supervise the accounting department to ensure the proper functioning of all systems, databases and financial software. Provide regular maintenance and backup of all accounting systems.
  • Review and ensure application of appropriate internal controls and financial procedures.
  • Oversee the preparation and communication of weekly, monthly and annual financial statements.
  • Timely file of all local, state and federal tax returns.
  • Work with Human Resources to ensure appropriate legal compliance.
  • Review all month-end closing activities including general ledger accounts, balance sheet accounts and overhead cost allocation while eliminating inefficiencies.
  • Enhance and implement financial and accounting systems, processes, tools and control systems
  • Serve as a key point of contact for external auditors; Manage preparation and support of all external audits.

Financial Management

  • ESOP Financial Management responsibilities: Working closely with accounting and auditing firms, valuations, trustees, corporate attorneys and plan administrators.
  • Manage cash flow planning process and ensure funds availability.
  • Oversee cash, investments and asset management area.
  • Explore new investment opportunities and provide recommendations on potential returns and risks.
  • Maintain outstanding banking relationships and strategic alliances with vendors and business partners.
  • Utilize forward-looking models and activity-based analyses to provide financial insight into the organization’s plans and operating budgets.

Financial Relations and Policies

  • Engage Executive Management team to develop short term and long-term plans, projections and budgets.
  • Represent company to banks, financial partners, institutions, insurance, and public auditors
  • Remain current on audit best practices; and state, federal and local law regarding company operations.

Cash Management

  • Oversee weekly cash management;
  • Oversee AP Department, approve payables, sign checks, authorize large wires and ACHs
  • Supervise AR and provide guidance relating to the collection process


Skills, Experience and Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance, MBA preferred, CPA Preferred
  • 10+ Years total accounting or finance experience
  • Experience working in an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) preferred
  • Experience working with Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS) preferred
  • Background with mergers or acquisitions preferred
  • Systems implementation experience and “Hands On” ERP systems experience preferred
  • Demonstrate outstanding communication and presentation skills to employees, customers and supply partners.
  • Demonstrate leadership ability, executive presence, and ability to motivate staff.
  • Excellent analytical, reasoning and problem-solving skills,
  • Experience working with external auditors, internal controls, and compliance related issues.
