Job Summary:
We are seeking a Fiber Optic Install Technician responsible for deploying, installing, and activating network Transport (DWDM) and L2/L3 equipment. This role involves working closely with an infrastructure project director to develop and coordinate installations according to the scope of work (SOW) for assigned projects. The technician will also assist the network engineering team with the final activation and acceptance of network infrastructure equipment and collaborate with operations, field technicians, and contractors to complete projects within specified deadlines.
Key Responsibilities:
- Install and activate network infrastructure equipment in accordance with industry standards and customer/colo requirements.
- Coordinate the installation and activation of network infrastructure equipment.
- Provide smart hands support for the Transport and L2/L3 product teams.
- Support Optical and IP teams with various initiatives.
- Assist in identifying optimization and cost-saving measures for POP builds, ILAs, and HUB sites.
- Contribute to planning and support for outside plant and customer projects.
- Travel up to 25% and be available for overtime and non-business hours work as needed.
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline or equivalent education, training, and/or experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience with telecom equipment.
- At least 2 years of experience in telecom installation.
- Proficient in troubleshooting, servicing, and repairing telecom equipment, including Ciena, Infinera, and Nokia optical transport.
- Comfortable working with AC and DC low voltage power systems.
- Must be able to perform physical tasks such as sitting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
- A valid driver's license and a clean driving record are required. Must have own vehicle
