Shipping and Receiving Handling Specialist Job Description

The shipping and receiving specialist maintains production and distribution of product by pulling orders from inventory, delivering production materials and supplies; staging finished product and receiving incoming shipments.

Essential Functions

Receiving

·         Unload and unpack incoming shipments.  Places received material in proper stock locations and processes receiving information into company ERP system.

·         Maintain project material in warehouse area.

·         Compare identifying information and count, weigh or measure items of incoming shipments to verify information against bills of lading, invoices, orders or other records.

·         Examine incoming containers, reject damaged items, record shortages and correspond with shippers to rectify damages or shortages.

·         Deliver incoming material to respective recipient.

·         Record factors causing goods to be returned and contact vendors for return authorization.  Processes goods to return to vendor.

·         Operates forklift or uses hand truck to move, convey, or hoist shipments from shipping and receiving platform to storage or work area.

Shipping

·         Verify and keep records on incoming shipments, prepares items for shipment and set up transportation by freight carrier.

·         Read shipping orders to determine quantity and type of transportation required.

·         Contact carrier representatives to make arrangements and to issue instructions for loading products.

·         Assemble wooden or cardboard containers or select preassembled containers to insert items into.

·         Examine outgoing shipments to ensure shipment meets specifications.

·         Maintain inventory of shipping materials and supplies.

·         Operate lift truck or uses hand truck to move, convey, or hoist shipments from shipping and receiving area.

·         Perform other clerical tasks such as typing and mailing bills, typing correspondence and keeping files.

·         Import/export international goods and be versed with international compliance rules/regulations.

·         Create international shipping documents

Inventory Control

·         Maintains inventory by identifying, labeling, and placing materials and supplies in stock; recording location of inventory

·         Weekly cycle counting

·         Assist with yearly physical inventory count

·         Pull stock inventory for in-house project builds

·         Transfer inventory in Solomon/SAP computer system

Required Education and Experience

●        Must have a current valid driver’s license

●        High School diploma or equivalent

●        It is preferred this individual has SAP Business One experience

Physical demands

●        The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  Must be able to lift 80-100 lbs., climb ladders, stoop and bend frequently.

●        While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear.

●        The employee is required to sit, walk and stand for extended periods of time.

●        Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust to focus.

Work Environment

●        Position is in an industrial setting with moving machinery, and varied noise levels.
