The Facilities Technician performs various custodial and maintenance functions to maintain Williams County buildings, facilities, and grounds.

Examples of Duties

The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities performed by incumbents in this position. The duties and responsibilities described are not a comprehensive list and may change with or without notice. Incumbents must be able to perform the essential function of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Maintains bathrooms including cleaning sinks, toilets, walls, and mirrors; sanitizes surfaces; ensures bathroom products are stocked

  • Sweeps, mops, and vacuums floors; performs floor care duties, including waxing and buffering commercial floors

  • Empties, cleans, and sanitizes waste receptacles; maintains breakroom

  • Performs maintenance functions, including painting, changing lightbulbs and filters, and moving furniture

  • Maintains public grounds, including lawn maintenance, snow removal, and upkeep of walkways and parking areas

  • Ensures County buildings and grounds are safe and maintained, reports areas of concern to supervisor

  • Maintains confidentiality of non-public records and makes available all data and information deemed a public record by the North Dakota Century Code.

Typical Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent AND one (1) year of maintenance or janitorial experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience

  • Must possess a valid North Dakota Driver’s License or equivalent

  • Must pass a background check and pre-employment drug and alcohol screening

Special Working Conditions:

  • Some work is performed outdoors with exposure to extreme temperatures and inclement weather

  • Some work is performed in and around mechanical, industrial, and electrical equipment

  • Exposure to chemicals, sewage, and dust

  • Required to lift to 50 pounds

  • Occasional work outside of regular hours


Compensation: Starting pay ranges from $22.99 to $25.29 per hour, based on qualifications and experience. Williams County Offers a Generous Benefit Package, including Paid sick and vacation 11 paid holidays per years, fully paid health , dental and vision insurance for single, single plus dependent, or family contracts, term life insurance, long term disability insurance, fully funded retirement benefits through the North Dakota Public employees retirement system.
