We are looking for a Wind Turbine Technician III to join our Alpha Team in Altrad Sparrows Houston, USA.

The main purpose of the role is to perform maintenance and/or installation work on assigned wind turbines at an intermediate level. The Lead Technician will follow defined schedules and procedures including safety protocol, turbine service and/or installation processes, and other verbal and written instruction and may make initial diagnosis of more basic or routine turbine issues. The Lead Technician is regarded a job site lead on the technician team, will perform some customer interface, and may provide mentorship to entry level technicians.

Main responsibilities

  • Demonstrated use and understanding of intermediate level power tools such as hydraulic, power torque and diagnostic tools (e.g. fluke meter functions and hydraulic pressure gauge).
  • Ability to demonstrate intermediate working knowledge of industrial safety practices / protocols (e.g. Confined Space, energy isolation).
  • Daily management and oversite of technicians, ensuring proper PPE is used and maintained and that all safety measures for worksite are followed.
  • Confirm with windfarm site manager(s) any site-specific requirements, point of contact, sign in, site logistics policy, muster points, site evacuation plan, area services and so on to ensure all safety, reporting, local municipal and regulatory requirements are met. Communicate this to team.
  • Able to effectively collaborate with employees at all professional levels and ability to respectfully follow supervision and support initiatives.
  • Basic computer operation skills, familiarity with internet-based program navigation, and ability to generate and interpret computer data.
  • As team lead, complete necessary forms and reports as well as collecting timecards and other required documentation from technicians and submitting these within required deadlines.
  • Maintain open lines of communication with Operations team, communicating any concerns or challenges encountered while on site.
  • Ability to read, interpret and understand drawings and schematics to validate work activity and ensure that risks are identified and mitigated.

HSEQ responsibilities

  • It is mandatory that the incumbent is familiar with the Company's HSEQ Policy and takes an active role in the compliance and improvement of Sparrows Integrated Management System. The incumbent must report any incidents, near misses, actual or potential problems with products, services or systems to their Line Manager.
  • The incumbent also has legal responsibilities under country-specific health and safety legislation to follow all Company processes and procedures and familiarise themselves with the emergency response arrangements applicable to them. The incumbent is also responsible for the health and safety arrangements of subordinates (if any) and for any persons visiting them while on the Company premises.

Qualifications and experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Minimum three (3) years technical wind industry experience
  • Certified to perform all required duties for customers in the wind industry
  • Some leadership experience preferred
  • Ability to read, comprehend and write in English.
  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders 60-125 meters in height.
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, carry items up to 50 lbs in weight.
  • Ability to stand, stoop, kneel, and bend for prolonged periods of time.
  • Ability to grip and manually manipulate, often with repetitive motion, items such as, but not limited to, hand tools, turbine parts.
  • Comfort working in confined spaces and at heights over 100 meters.
  • Ability to successfully participate in all training courses, including high-angle rescue and training.
  • Ability to hear and use close range radios.
  • Strong field of vision including visual depth perception and ability to distinguish colors.
  • Able to work in demanding physical and inclement weather conditions.
  • Comfort working remotely with limited supervisory interaction.
  • Valid Driver's License and ability to obtain a Passport.
  • Strong attention to detail and execution excellence.
  • Good interpersonal and customer relation skills.
  • Contribute to company image and reputation.
