The Opportunity: PLA University is seeking a dedicated academic and career advisor to assist and guide students in their academic and personal development journey. The role involves assessing the strengths and challenges of students, helping them set realistic academic and career goals, and designing student success plans. You will be responsible for monitoring students' academic progress, providing program information, and offering career counseling. Moreover, you will also be responsible for supporting all workshops and group sessions and maintaining ongoing communication through various channels. The Details: 

Key Deliverables: 

  • Demonstrating skill in working with students to assess their academic, career, and personal development goals, as well as their aptitude to achieve these goals
  • Collaborating with academic colleagues to develop academic advising protocols and programs that help retain students
  • Meeting strict deadlines, working independently, and taking initiative when appropriate
  • Providing supportive assistance with all workshops, training, and group sessions
  • Possessing excellent oral and written communication skills with team members, leads, students, and educational and community partners

Experience and Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social work, Higher Education, or a related field of study, or four years of related work experience
  • Two years of experience advising or admissions with adult Student Services
  • Knowledge of workforce development career pathways and hiring trends
  • This hybrid position requires in-person interaction with students, training partners, and community partners, as needed
  • Proficiency in working with spreadsheets (Excel), databases, and CRM platforms like Salesforce or Hubspot (or similar), is mandatory
  • Understanding of career advising and education best practices
  • Experience in adult education training, customer service, and personal service
  • Must possess excellent skills in active listening, speaking, reading comprehension, social perceptiveness, critical thinking, writing, judgment and decision making, active listening, complex problem solving, and service orientation
  • Highly skilled in deductive reasoning, problem sensitivity, inductive reasoning, and information ordering
  • Knowledge of social work case management, preferred
  • Bilingual skills, preferred

Compensation and benefits:

PLA Pathway Coordinators receive a base salary that is competitively aligned to the market. In addition to a base salary, we offer:
