CEO Youth Leadership and Employment Academy Summer Intern is part of RRHA’s commitment to the growth and development of its’ families to become productive, contributing citizens to the Greater Richmond Community. The opportunities provided to the youth of RRHA communities will assist them in becoming the future leaders, businesspeople, and politician of tomorrow.

The Summer Internship Program is designed to provide an opportunity for RRHA college students to apply and develop leadership skills by supervising and training young people who are in the above youth employment programs. This group will have supervisory responsibilities for the Career Exploration and Community Beautification participants and will assist in the development of training of the youth 14-18 years old.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The position duties and responsibilities listed below describe the general nature and scope of work. Other responsibilities, duties, and skills may be required and assigned, as needed.

  • Supervise the Career Exploration and Community Beautification program participants which includes but is not limited to:
    1. Taking attendance daily;
    2. Providing work assignment to participants;
    3. Training participants on the aspects of their jobs;
    4. Answering any questions regarding work assignments;
    5. Encouraging and coaching participants as they perform their work; and
    6. Resolving conflicts that may be impacting the group’s effectiveness and/or working relationship.
  • Develop Training for the Youth Grounds Work Technicians Program participants which includes but is not limited to:
    1. Learning the tasks required for the Technician;
    2. Developing the training on the Technician work tasks;
    3. Monitoring if the training is effective and making modification to enhance the training; and
    4. Encouraging and coaching participants as they perform their work.
  • Modeling professional and mature behavior for program participants.
  • Consult with RRHA supervision or the Program Manager if a participant (s) are experiencing difficult performing their assignments.
  • Build positive relationships with program participants.

  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing to communicate information and ideas in writing so others will understand.
  • Ability to make routine decisions in accordance with procedures, policies, laws and regulations.
  • Ability to establish and maintain harmonious, cooperative and professional working relationships with others employees and the general public.
  • Ability to effectively exchange information with customers, supervisors and co-workers, in written form, e-mail, or in person.

Education and/or Experience

Position requires Graduation from high school with a diploma or a GED program or currently enrolled in Trade School or a College/University.

Applicant must have and maintain a driving record acceptable to RRHA and its insurance carrier(s).

Technical Skills

To perform this job successfully, the employee must have the ability to work with children and young adults, develop and communicate instructions and follow up on the status of task completion.
