Azure Data Engineer

Position Summary
Reporting to the Director of BI and EDW, the Azure Data Engineer is responsible for successful delivery of data and information to the entire organization. This role acts as an acknowledged expert on Azure data engineering resources with knowledge of data warehousing concepts and will be responsible for the design, development, implementation and support of the Enterprise Data Warehouse pipelines, dataflows and data delivery.
Essential Functions
- Translate business requirements into secure and performant Azure solutions
- Design and develop ETL/ELT processes to support population of the Enterprise Data Warehouse and general data delivery needs
- Develop modern Data Warehouse, Data Lake, data storage, and ETL/ELT solutions in Azure
- Support implemented Azure solutions by monitoring pipelines, addressing user questions concerning data integrity, monitoring cost and performance and communicating functional and technical issues
- Evolve a scalable, cost-effective Azure data environment and assist with developing a strategic roadmap for modern Data Warehousing
- Establish and ensure compliance to database standards through the entire development life cycle
- Mentors DW/BI staff and provides feedback and guidance
- Other job-related duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong analytical skills to solve and model complex business requirements
- Experience and understanding of data warehouse design concepts, Azure data engineering resources and SQL including complex stored procedures.
- Experience developing Azure Data Warehouse and Data Lake solutions using Azure Data Factory, Data Flows and Azure Notebooks.
- Experience writing scripts and notebooks for Spark (Python, R, SQL) that access and manipulate files and data from storage accounts, SQL Servers, and API’s
- Proficient with Azure Synapse and\or MS Fabric
- Knowledge of RDBMS concepts and stored procedures
- Self-starter, with great analytical and communication skills
- Must be a team player
- Some experience with Microsoft SQL Server BI stack (Database, SSIS, SSAS, SSRS) a plus
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or other technical discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience
- 5+ years of experience in a complex data warehouse environment
- Hands-on Data warehousing project experience and experience in full life cycle Business Intelligence development, implementation, tuning and support
- Experience extracting reporting/analytics requirements from business users
Required Certification/License
- Ability to obtain, and maintain a Ohio Casino Control Commission Gaming License, Ohio Casino Control Commission Sports Gaming License, and a Ohio Lottery Commission Gaming License
