Job Description: Fund Accountant

Overview: As a Fund Accountant, you will be responsible for overseeing the financial operations and reporting for investment funds, ensuring accurate and timely recording of transactions, and maintaining compliance with regulatory standards. You will play a critical role in supporting investment managers and ensuring the integrity of financial data for fund performance analysis and investor reporting.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  1. Financial Reporting and Analysis:

    • Prepare and review financial statements and NAV (Net Asset Value) calculations for investment funds in accordance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) or IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards).
    • Perform reconciliations of fund assets, liabilities, income, and expenses to ensure accuracy and completeness.
    • Analyze fund performance metrics and prepare performance reports for internal stakeholders and investors.
  2. Transaction Processing and Oversight:

    • Record and reconcile daily transactions including trades, dividends, interest, expenses, and accruals.
    • Monitor cash flows and ensure sufficient liquidity for fund operations.
    • Coordinate with external service providers (custodians, administrators) to resolve discrepancies and ensure accurate recording of transactions.
  3. Regulatory Compliance and Audit Support:

    • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements (SEC, CFTC, etc.) and fund-specific guidelines.
    • Assist with audit preparations and respond to auditor inquiries.
    • Maintain documentation and support schedules for audits and regulatory filings.
  4. Fund Operations Support:

    • Assist in the setup and launch of new funds, including reviewing legal documents and coordinating with internal teams and external service providers.
    • Participate in fund valuation processes and pricing activities.
    • Support fund managers with ad-hoc reporting and analysis as needed.
  5. Systems and Process Improvement:

    • Identify opportunities for process improvements and automation to enhance efficiency and accuracy in fund accounting operations.
    • Collaborate with IT and operations teams to implement system upgrades and enhancements.
    • Stay updated on industry best practices and regulatory changes affecting fund accounting.

Skills Required:

  • Communication: Effective written and verbal communication skills to interact with internal teams, external service providers, and auditors.
  • Team Collaboration: Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment and across different departments.
  • Time Management: Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Technology Proficiency: Proficiency in MS Excel and familiarity with fund accounting software (e.g., Advent Geneva, Investran, or similar).

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA certification preferred).
  • 3+ years of experience in fund accounting, preferably within the asset management or investment industry.
  • Experience with hedge funds, private equity funds, mutual funds, or other investment vehicles is advantageous.
