CAPS Collaborative is seeking applicants for the position of Speech Language Pathologist Assistant (SLPA) in the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Program. The SLPA provides direct language/communication services in the school setting and assists in the development of IEP goals and objectives in collaboration
with the supervising SLP.

About the role:

Provide quality speech and language services for students who are deaf or hard of hearing. Whether a student uses American Sign Language (ASL), listening and spoken language or a combination of spoken language and signs, the SLPA will develop communication competence in the students' preferred modality under the direction of the supervising SLP.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct and consultative services as indicated on students' IEPs.
  • Document student performance (i.e., tallying data for the SLP, preparing charts, records, graphs) and maintain appropriate records as requested by SLP or Program Director.
  • Prepare quarterly or trimester progress reports of student progress towards IEP goals.
  • Assist supervising SLP with assessments and evaluations.
  • Meet regularly with SLP to review lesson planning, service provision and IEP goal progress.
  • Collaborate with SLP for the development of IEP goals.
  • Assist with clerical duties, such as preparing materials and scheduling activities, as directed by the SLP.
  • Attend scheduled meetings as requested by supervising SLP and/or Program Director.
  • Travel between schools and programs as deemed necessary.
  • Comply with all Medicaid requirements for school-based claims.
  • Maintain professional boundaries and ensure student/staff confidentiality as appropriate within the educational team.
  • Contribute to professional growth and collaboration by staying informed on current literature/resources in the field and actively participating in staff meetings and professional development opportunities.
  • Assist with clerical duties, such as preparing materials and scheduling activities, as directed by the SLP.
  • Perform other job-related tasks or duties at the discretion of the Program Director.

Candidate Requirement:

  • Bachelor's degree in Communication Disorders or related field
  • Licensed (or eligibility) for Speech-Language Pathology Assistant license issued by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Division of Professional Licensure, Board of Speech-Language Pathology
  • Knowledge of American Sign Language (ASL); able to provide direct services in ASL
  • Experience working with deaf or hard of hearing students
  • Ability to work well with licensed Speech/Language Pathologist and multidisciplinary team

Physical Requirements:

  • Able to navigate all areas of the school quickly including indoor and outdoor areas.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
