Job Description for: Team Leader-Tooling

Purpose of Job:

This position reports to the Tooling Manager and the Vice President (VP) of Tooling and is responsible for the daily job duties of the group and the leadership of associates in the group.

Minimum level of education / training required/certificates/licenses:

This position requires a General Educational Diploma (GED) or High School Equivalency (HSE) diploma. Vocational and/ or Technical training in Machine Trades.

Minimum experience required: Preferred 3 years of Tooling experience.

Essential Responsibilities:

1. Direction of Tooling associates in the maintenance or repair of compound, progressive, and transfer dies.

2. Training and supervision of tooling associates within the area.

3. Attend the shift change meetings to discuss the daily set-up schedule and review any issues from the previous shifts.

4. Schedule maintenance for tools after completing the past-production runs and including change over procedures.

5. Completes Tooling associates evaluations.

6. Performs disciplinary actions when necessary.

7. Develop daily job assignments for Tooling associates.

8. Review press schedules to determine availability of dies for upcoming runs.

9. Review rate efficiency reports for problem dies, evaluate the condition of those dies, schedule repair work with Tooling Manager for dies needing attention.

10. Starts and maintains spare inventory on jobs in area, and to select an alternate type of tool steels and/or coatings.

12. Maintain dies and machine related items to efficiently produce statistically capable parts in a timely manner. Repair and maintenance of compound, progressive, transfer, and restrike dies.

13. Complete assign tasks on tooling work orders in an accurate and timely manner. Prepare tooling for complete production readiness.

14. Capable of trouble shooting a tool accurately with the use of stop block reading, solder checks, inspection layouts, progressive strip or rack of parts.

15. Understands the functions of, is capable of installing and can correct malfunctions of die support elements ( part unloader, knockouts systems, slug suckers, die protection and etc.)

16. Has understanding of trigonometry. Can calculate die clearance, and shear angles.

17. Capable of retiming of die components accurate and producing quality shims in a timely manner.

18. Lead Continuous Improvement projects, understands machine capabilities, can complete engineering changes from start to finish.

19. Capable of setting up, plus operating any manual machine and Proto Trak equipment in the tooling area in a timely manner. Accurately producing virtually any machine able item from start to finish by use of a blue print.

20. Properly and accurately filling out press logs and tooling work orders.

21. Takes care of all prints changes that are needed and Kanban list changes that are needed or encountered.

22. As skill level permits checking production parts following a repair and or adjustments in the press to insure correct action was effective to produce a good quality part before taking parts to production inspection.

23. Capable to operate various press equipment and participates in die tryout and inspection of parts.

24. Exhibits an exceptionally high degree of confidence in his or her performance, stands behind work and decision. Willing to help any level associate and adequately train lesser experienced co-worker.

25. Actively participates Continuous Improvement team to continually strive to improve our processes and procedures.

26. Assists in the training of the co-op, and mentorship program students.

27. Actively involved line sides of new tools, and performs debriefs with pressroom.

28. Attends weekly tooling meetings to report on the top down time jobs.

29. Assist Quality with corrective actions on customer complaints in a timely manner.

30. Attends weekly group meeting for debrief form follow up.

31. Starts work orders by entering debrief to do items, and completes deviations in Plex when work orders are entered in system.

32. Successfully maintains work order files.

33. Approves tools for production.

34. Professionally provides training for new hire associates.

35. Communicates to Tooling Manager of dies not ready for upcoming next week.

36. Communicates to other shifts what they worked on pressroom and toolroom.

37. Based on company needs a flexible work schedule and/or overtime is needed.

5. Pallet jacks and overhead cranes

9. Tow motor and floor scrubber

10. Welders and plasma cutters

11. Pressure washer

12. Shear, press brake, and iron worker

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position is responsible for the supervision of the associates in the tooling group.
