Position Summary


The mission of Hope the Mission (HTM) is to prevent, reduce, and eliminate poverty, hunger, and homelessness by offering immediate assistance and long-term solutions.


The Intake Specialist is responsible for enrollment on individuals experiencing homelessness who are accessing storage center services. The intake specialist is responsible for ensuring thorough management of client files from enrollment to program exit and electronic record keeping of client and service information. This position will provide resources to local service providers to clients. Intake Specialist will administer all services using Housing First, Low-Barrier, Trauma Informed Care approaches.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities


1. Complete program enrollments for participants seeking storage center services

2. Collect relevant client information and documents

3. Actively listens to participants and engages in appropriate problem-solving strategies through trauma-informed conversations

4. Ensure all documentation is placed inside participants' master file and uploaded in HMIS

5. Provide resources to local service providers including shelters, drop-in centers, hygiene services, etc. and conduct warm handoff as appropriate

6. Ensure compliance with all documentation as detailed in the Scope of Required Services

7. Attend staff meetings, case conferences, training workshops. and community meetings

as needed.

8. Implement crises de-escalation interventions as appropriate

9. Other duties as assigned by supervisor


Minimum Qualifications


  • Lived experience preferred

  • Minimum of one year of experience in housing and homeless services

  • Must have strong written and verbal communication skills, including customer service focus in working with all internal organizational levels and external contacts

  • B.A. in Social Work, Human Services, Psychology or other related field preferred

  • Experience working with people experiencing homelessness or other vulnerable populations preferred

  • Must be highly collaborative within a team environment

  • Highly motivated self-starter with the ability to coordinate multiple projects/tasks simultaneously in a within tight department metrics and deadlines. Possess ability to manage conflicting priorities and projects

  • Exceptional organizational skills detail-oriented to review information and ensure accuracy

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred

  • Ability to work with diverse populations

  • Ability to proficiently operate a PC, MAC, fax, and telephone

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer

  • Ability to walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis

  • Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinet drawers, storage bins and reach overhead

WORK ENVIRONMENT


The employee may be in contact with individuals and families in crisis who may be ill, using alcohol and drugs, and who may not be attentive to basic personal hygiene, health and safety practices. The employee may experience a number of unpleasant sensory demands associated with the clients use of alcohol and drugs, and lack of personal hygiene. The employee must be ready to respond quickly and effectively to many types of situations, including crisis situations and potentially hostile situations. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate in an office setting. Sometimes work may become stressful when working under pressure.
