The Development Intern will be responsible for supporting the Development Team in various aspects of our day-to-day work to raise funds in support of Welcoming America's mission. The primary focus of this internship will be on researching prospective funders and helping transition the fundraising team to a new Customer Relationships Management (CRM) tool. The full scope of this internship will be informed by intern skills, experience, and interests. Additional responsibilities may range from data management, administrative support, preparing grant applications and reports, and assisting with campaign preparation.

We are a small team—candidates can therefore expect to gain a broad range of practical skills and hands-on experience in all aspects of development work, as well as opportunities to engage cross-functionally across the organization.

As this is a virtual internship, candidates should expect to participate regularly in team calls and video meetings, as well as actively use email and chat platforms to communicate progress and ask questions.

Responsibilities

● Effectively transfer donor data from our current CRM to the new CRM and clean up any incorrect donor data, with support from the Development Manager

● Conduct prospect research to expand Welcoming America’s donor database

● Participate regularly in team check-ins and full staff meetings

● Provide administrative support to the Development team

● Prepare grant applications, grant reports, and other fundraising materials, with support from the Development Manager

● Conduct research and data management projects

● Assist with the planning of fundraising campaigns

● Potential for other projects as determined by skill, interest, and need

Qualifications

Skills

● Thrives in a very fast-paced environment and can manage multiple projects

● Strong written communication and project management skills, with a high attention to detail.

● Intermediate computer skills, including experience with Excel and Google Suite

● Enthusiastic about research and enjoys learning and working through complex processes and systems

Knowledge

Candidates must have a growth mindset and a passion for diversity, equity, inclusion, immigration, refugees, and community building. Some technical experience in data management or fundraising would be an asset (but not required).

Attributes

A high degree of flexibility and responsiveness is essential for this position. Candidates must possess a strong work ethic, excellent written and spoken communication, and superb attention to detail. A proactive, can-do attitude and strong motivation to get the most out of the internship experience will be a critical measurement of success.

As this is a virtual internship, candidates must be able to manage their time and workload with minimal supervision. They must also adhere to all the same professional standards in their demeanor and work quality as they would in an on-site internship.

Other Requirements

Candidates must be enrolled in a university degree program. Preference will be given to students who are in their sophomore year or beyond and those who are pursuing a degree in nonprofit management, international business, pre-law, social sciences, or the IT field.

Candidates must also have consistent access to a computer and a reliable Internet connection.
