Become the newest member of our dynamic team at New Hope Bay Senior Living Community as the Maintenance Assistant, where you’ll assist in maintaining the communities’ two buildings and pristine grounds.  We’re on the lookout for a passionate individual that will join us in delivering unparalleled service to our valued team members and residents.

 

SUMMARY OF DUTIES

 

An employee in this position is responsible for maintaining the building and grounds of a Home for Aged (HFA) Assisted Living, Memory Care and Independent Living community and is responsible for assisting with overall compliance with regulatory codes and licensing relating to the building and grounds.  An employee in this position works under the supervision of the Facilities Maintenance Director and Executive Director.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  1. Conduct building repairs and preventative maintenance, including risk management, building and grounds security and emergency response systems; respond to resident and community maintenance requests quickly and efficiently.
  2. Ensure community meets legal standards, including applicable Federal, State and local laws, codes regulations, health/safety requirements and licensing, including ventilation, temperature (air and water), lighting and other building and environmental conditions.
  3. Responsible for the transportation of residents and NHB bus service and repairs as needed.
  4. Work with external Vendors as necessary.

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS - KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES

 

  1. Knowledge of regulatory and licensing requirements regarding the building and grounds as they pertain to the Department of Consumer and Industrial Services Home for the Aged; OSHA regulations and licensing.
  2. Knowledge and Skills relating to plumbing, carpentry, electrical, painting, HVAC systems, operation and maintenance; principles and practices of building construction including the operation of equipment and tools relating to building maintenance.
  3. Ability to drive multi-passenger Community Shuttle safely and appropriately.
  4. Ability to be flexible, solve problems/conflicts effectively in a sensitive and calm manner, act independently and carry out oral and/or written instructions; ability to react quickly and decisively in the event of an emergency.
  5. Satisfactory references, background check, drug screen, pre-employment physical and current PPD for tuberculosis.

 

 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

 

  1. High School or GED equivalent
  2. AA Degree, Professional Certifications and/or additional training/experience in any trades preferred
  3. Must possess and maintain a safe driving record and valid driver’s license in the State of Michigan.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

 

  1. Work is performed in a residential community setting and outside the community while performing job requirements, subject to inclement weather.
  2. Manual dexterity to operate hand tools.
  3. Speaking and hearing required to perform job responsibilities; reading/writing; understand directions and communicate verbally. 
  4. Alternate van driver for the Community Shuttle; and the ability to distinguish color, close and far vision acuity, depth perception and ability to adjust vision focus.

Must be in good physical health and possess the ability to climb, balance, kneel, crouch, reach, walk, sit, lift, grasp, perform repetitive motions; ability to stand for an extended length of time.
