Responsibilities:

  1. Database Architecture and Design:

    • Lead the design and architecture of complex database solutions, including database schemas, tables, views, and stored procedures, to meet business requirements and support application development initiatives.
    • Collaborate with development teams to ensure optimal database design, performance, and scalability for applications.

  2. Database Management and Administration:

    • Oversee the management and administration of databases, including installation, configuration, and maintenance of database management systems (DBMS) such as MySQL, Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, or PostgreSQL.
    • Ensure the performance, availability, and security of databases through proactive monitoring, optimization, and security measures.

  3. Database Performance Optimization:

    • Lead database performance tuning and optimization efforts, including query optimization, index management, and database caching strategies.
    • Implement and enforce best practices for database performance and scalability to meet the needs of the organization.

  4. High Availability and Disaster Recovery:

    • Design, implement, and maintain high availability and disaster recovery solutions such as database clustering, replication, and failover configurations to ensure data availability and business continuity.
    • Develop and maintain database backup and recovery strategies, including regular backups, offsite storage, and recovery testing.

  5. Security and Compliance:

    • Develop and enforce database security policies, procedures, and controls to protect against security threats, vulnerabilities, and cyber attacks.
    • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, industry standards, and data privacy laws related to database security and data protection.

  6. Automation and Scripting:

    • Develop and maintain automation scripts and tools for database administration tasks such as backups, restores, and monitoring using scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Python).
    • Streamline database administration processes and tasks through automation to improve efficiency and reduce manual effort.

  7. Team Leadership and Mentoring:

    • Lead and mentor a team of database administrators, providing guidance, coaching, and technical expertise to support their professional development and growth.
    • Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence within the database administration team.

Qualifications:

  1. Education: Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or related field. Advanced degrees or certifications such as Oracle Certified Master (OCM) or Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE) are preferred.

  2. Experience:

    • 7+ years of progressive experience in database administration or related fields.
    • Proven experience managing and administering databases in large-scale production environments, including experience with high availability, disaster recovery, and database security.

  3. Technical Skills:

    • Expert-level knowledge of database management systems such as MySQL, Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, or PostgreSQL.
    • Strong SQL skills and extensive experience writing and optimizing complex SQL queries.
    • Proficiency in database monitoring and management tools such as SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS), Oracle Enterprise Manager, or pgAdmin.

  4. Soft Skills:

    • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to lead and mentor a team of database administrators.
    • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
    • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
