About the Role:

Aquila is seeking a Java Developer to join our team in supporting one of the country's premier defense research organizations. Java Developer specializes in advanced network and communications systems development, with a focus on tactical mobile, organizations airborne networks of the future. Java Developer will use a combination of technical analysis, modeling, simulation, emulation, prototype development, and flight evaluation to develop new communication systems and evaluate and predict their performance under expected conditions.

There are a few requirements for the position:

  • Must be a U.S Citizen (Green Cards / Visas do not qualify)
  • Willingness to undergo a comprehensive background investigation and maintain a personal security clearance. (Aquila would sponsor you for the security clearance.)
  • Must be within commutable distance of Lexington, Massachusetts.

Responsibilities:

Develops application software. Writing and implementing efficient code. Researches, designs, develops and implements software applications and systems. Involved in planning of system and development deployment as well as responsible for meeting software compliance standards. Evaluates, designs and implements interface between hardware and software, operational requirements, cloud offering, system architecture, security and characteristics of overall system. Researching, designing, implementing and managing software programs. Identifying areas for modification in existing programs and subsequently developing these modifications. Determining operational practicality. Documents testing, client experience and maintenance of system corrections. May partner and collaborate with cyber security teams to ensure compliance with security standards. May develop and conduct unit tests.

What You'll Bring:

  • Minimum 5 years' experience in Software Development
  • Proficient in Java and Python programming languages.
  • Experience with C/C++ and other scripting languages (perl, awk etc.) a plus.
  • Experience with modern software engineering tools, including Java dev environments (IntelliJ, Eclipse etc.), debuggers, code repositories, version control (git) and issue tracking (jira)
  • Proficient using Linux OS
  • Proficient in using and developing Containers and Container Networking – Podman, Podman-Compose etc.
  • Basic Networking experience required. Understands OSI model, routing protocols, TCP/IP stack, etc.
Must Have
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 5 years Java, JavaScript, Python
  • 5 years Software/Algorithm Development
  • 5 years Software Documentation
  • 5 years Development experience on a Linux platform
  • 5 years Object Oriented Software Design and Development
  • 5 years Programming Languages (Java, JavaScript, Python)
  • 5 years Scripting Languages: Bash/shell, Python and Perl
  • 5 years Software Design/Development
  • 5 years Maven or Gradle, Git / Gitlab, Make / Autotools
  • 5 years Containerization (Docker, podman, etc.)
  • 5 years Familiarity with JIRA / Confluence

Nice to Have

  • Master's of Science in Computer Engineering or Computer Science
  • Background in Software Defined Networking a plus.
