Cleveland Area Hospital is an independent facility half an hour west of Tulsa, Oklahoma. The hospital offers emergency, laboratory, radiology, inpatient care, outpatient infusion, and nurse care services, a fully equipped rehabilitation center, and a thriving seven-provider primary care clinic. The organization is transitioning to a Regional Healthcare Provider, under consistent leadership for the past 8 years.

The Hospital and Clinic have been on a consistent trajectory of growth and progress over the past 8 years, and patient volumes and revenues have doubled in that time. POSITION SUMMARY:

Evaluates task performance skills, and plans and implements programs designed to restore the patient's functional abilities. Provides consultation to physicians and others regarding the appropriateness of referral to occupational therapy, documents patient treatment and progress for third-party payors, educates the patient and others regarding occupational therapy treatment procedures, supervises assistants, aides, and volunteers, and participates in various projects and committees. For home assessments, may travel to patient home as deemed necessary.

PRINCIPAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Adhere to all policies of the organization, including (but not limited to) job description, certification/licensure requirements, mission statement, HIPAA, confidentiality standards, and patient’s rights.
  2. Actively engage and stay up to date with the organization’s communications and directives.
  3. Provide quality care to attain patient's optimal function and quality of life in the Swing Bed, Inpatient hospital, and Outpatient settings by:
    1. Maintaining accurate and timely documentation of care/treatment and determining appropriate charges according to CAH policies and procedures.
    2. Meeting Medicare standards, risk management standards, and all federal and state regulations.
    3. Adhering to all policies and procedures of CAH
  4. Perform patient care activities including
    1. Direct and assist clients in therapeutic regimens while delegating and supervising routine care to support staff or assistants as appropriate.
    2. Administer therapy services as outlined in the treatment plan and as approved by the physician.
    3. Incorporate safety, infection control, and emergency procedures into treatment as necessary.
    4. Modify the treatment plan and goals according to patient status.
    5. Ensure patients receive re-assessment as necessary and per Medicare-required standards.
    6. Communicate with physicians and team members concerning patient progress.
    7. Seek input from patients and/or their families regarding quality of care.
    8. Recommend, provide, or adapt assistive devices to support patients' functional outcomes.
    9. Provide specific training in the use, care, and application of assistive devices for patients, family members, and/or staff members as needed.
    10. Educate the client, family, or other staff members on goals to ensure maximal carryover of treatment programs.
    11. Communicate with other team members to establish a total rehabilitative program for the patient as necessary.
    12. Establish individual client schedules in conjunction with other patients and staff.
    13. Participate in discharge planning and team meetings.
  1. Complete indirect patient care activities including:
    1. Ensure continued professional development through participation in hospital in-services and continuing education.
    2. Attend and participate in staff meetings and family/ team conferences.
    3. Participate in department program development projects.
    4. Maintain a clean and professional appearance in the work area.
    5. Demonstrate initiative in assisting other staff members.
    6. Participate in community events to promote rehabilitative services, the hospital, and overall health and wellness.
    7. Conduct and participate in training medical and nursing staff in therapy techniques and objectives.
    8. Support continuous quality improvement efforts.
    9. Complete assigned projects/reports on time.
    10. Perform all other reasonable duties as assigned.

EDUCATIONAL/SKILLS REQUIRED:

The Occupational Therapist must be a graduate of an accredited Occupational Therapy school, successfully complete the National Certification Examination for Occupational Therapists, possess a current Occupational Therapy license with the state of Oklahoma, and qualify for malpractice coverage.

EXPERIENCE:

More than one year is preferred.

RESPONSIBILITY FOR CONFIDENTIAL INFORMATION:

This position could have access to patient confidential records and must comply with HIPAA regulations as well as Compliance Policies.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

The following physical/mental demands are required for the OT:

Frequently must be able to be on their feet walking, standing, transporting and/or positioning patients.

Occasionally lift and transfer a minimum of 50 pounds and apply a minimum of 60 pounds of push/pull force while using good body mechanics.
