Summary of Responsibilities

The Golf Course Maintenance Intern will work directly with the Greenskeepers and Assistant Golf Course Superintendents. Interns will assist with the day-to-day maintenance and agronomic practices of the golf course and adjacent grounds, including but not limited to the clubhouse landscaping and maintenance complex. The ideal candidate is a highly motivated individual who is looking to eventually become a Golf Course Superintendent. This candidate should be a self-starter who takes pride in their work ethic and values the importance of being a team player. Golf Course Maintenance Interns will maintain a warm, friendly environment creating a world class golf experience.

Essential Tasks/Duties/Responsibilities:

• Promotes a positive work environment through effective communication and creating a warm and engaging atmosphere.
• Daily mowing of all playing surfaces with walking and riding units.
• Rakes and maintains sand bunkers.
• Operates small machinery to assist with edging, trimming, and mowing.
• Performs general landscape maintenance using hand held equipment.
• Assist with water management and irrigation maintenance (hand watering, central programming, troubleshooting and repairs).
• Assist with fertilizer and chemical applications.
• Assist with golf course setup procedures.
• Involved with tasks related to course detail (weed and debris clean up).
• Operates utility vehicles for hauling material and removing debris.
• Communicates well with the staff members, management, and members.
• Operates equipment safely and is aware of fellow staff members and their prospective work areas.
• Performs skilled duties related to experience.
• Incorporates safe work practices in job performance and abides by all safety procedures and training.
• Maintains all golf course areas and maintenance facility. Involves use of hand-held type equipment such as: weed eaters, backpack, and push blowers, edgers, dew whips, self-propelled walking mower, fly mows, rakes and shovels, core pushers, picks and pitchforks, level lawns, and water hoses.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the Head Golf Course Superintendent.

Required Education/Experience:

• High School Graduate

Required Qualifications:

• Must have a passion for the golf industry
• Must have exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
• Enrolled/ working toward degree in Turfgrass management or related field of study.
• Must have valid driver’s license
• Must be able to work in both indoor and outdoor environments, varied weather conditions, day and/or night hours, occasional long hours, weekends and holidays

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to work in a standing position for long periods of time
• Must have ability to use both arms and hands
• May be required to work in an environment that includes such activities as bending, lifting, stooping, kneeling, climbing, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, and grasping.

Working Conditions:

• Must be able to work indoor and outdoor environments
• Must be able to work day and/or night hours, occasional long hours, weekends and holidays
