Summary:

KARMWorks is a workforce development program that serves individuals experiencing homelessness and utilizing emergency services at KARM. Students learn soft skills and vocational skills in construction, commercial cleaning, and culinary arts. Students split their time between project-based training and classroom settings. The Director of KARMWorks will launch a pilot construction trades program within a year, and manage existing trainings in commercial cleaning and culinary arts. The Director would be responsible for implementing curriculum, a program model, and job development. The Director would be responsible for the oversight of all student workforce development at KARM.

 

Duties:

  • Develop relationships with participants that promote and model a well-balanced Christian life.
  • Lead in the evaluation of student knowledge and skills in construction, and the development of project –based curriculum that includes construction.
  • Ensure quality instruction of construction skills including demolition, rough framing, roofing, drywall, finish carpentry, sheet metal, electrical, plumbing, painting, and masonry.
  • Coordinate and supervise daily operations of the KARMWorks program, including the coordination of the education, construction, life skills, job placement, leadership, and case management components.
  • Provide oversight of the on-site construction training by: ensuring that trainees get consistent and adequate skills training; helping to set standards for appropriate behavior and ways to handle problems on the construction site; and ensuring work-site safety, learning of safety procedures, and proper construction techniques.
  • Develop and implement a program participant recruitment strategy.
  • Ensure the educational, vocational, and/or job placement of KARMWorks graduates in coordination with other KARMWorks staff.
  • Manage the KARMWorks budget, including ensuring allowable costs and expense tracking/forecasting.
  • Develop systems and program operations in conjunction with KARMWorks and other agency staff and participants; maintain a focus on continuous quality improvement.
  • Manages the implementation of new career pathways/partnerships by establishing and maintaining positive relationships with essential education entities, non-profit agencies, faith-based agencies, private-sector businesses, etc.
  • Ensure trainees are prepared before going to job interviews, and conduct follow-up assessments.
  • Connect trainees with viable job opportunities.
  • Work closely with employers of students to maximize student employment retention and success.
  • Develop and maintain partnerships in the public and private sectors that will provide career opportunities that are aligned with KARMWorks students’ interests and goals.
  • Assist KARMWorks staff members and students to identify and schedule career-related guest speakers, site visits, job shadow experiences, and informational interviews.
  • Conducts workshops to businesses and community organizations interested in providing work experiences, internships, job shadowing activities, mentors, etc.
  • Perform other essential duties as assigned.

 

Requirements:

  • 3-5 years of experience in leadership, job development, construction trades, or workforce development preferred.
  • Bachelor’s Degree or Equivalent Experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with peers and management toward the accomplishment of KARM’s Mission Statement and Core Values.
  • Experience with and skilled in leading and coaching others; experience working with volunteers a plus.
  • Ability to set and monitor goals for and with individuals.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with individuals dealing with various forms of trauma.
  • Ability to effectively adapt to change.
  • Good organizational and administrative skills.
  • Ability to build personal relationships and maintain appropriate boundaries with guests.

Working Conditions: 

  • Potential high-risk environment at KARM maintained property.
  • Working daily with individuals having medical, mental health, and/or addictive behaviors.
  • Some local travel may be required for various purposes.
  • Occasional required attendance at KARM special events, sometimes during weekend or evening hours.
