SUMMARY:

The Controls/Automation technician will support engineering in increasing productivity and availability of company equipment through Process/Automation Improvements and Continuous improvement initiatives, as well as be responsible for promoting the professional competence of the Engineering & Maintenance team through daily activities, training, and support. As well as identifying gaps within the Engineering & Maintenance department.

  • Ability to investigate, troubleshoot, and design solutions to problems in Equipment hardware, software, and processes.
  • Working knowledge of word-processing and integrated software applications including Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to install, monitor, test, and service equipment and systems.
  • On-site interface for equipment/system installation, testing, fabrication, and other tasks as needed.
  • Comply with documentation standards, maintenance plans, and system specifications per SQF requirements.
  • Provide technical info and evaluation for spare components needed for equipment, and systems consistent with existing/or successor components.
  • Second tier support contact for maintenance technicians regarding machine issues and is considered the “go to” person for emergency breakdowns as needed.
  • Follows all Company Safety policies and procedures.
  • Comply with established production processes per SQF requirements.
  • Supports Maintaining and improving of Production Equipment so the line is capable of producing quality product within the allotted cycle time.
  • Maintain proper housekeeping at the job site during and at completion of tasks according to SQF Requirements.
  • Participate in supplier training for new and existing systems and equipment.
  • Drives continuous improvement efforts by identification and reduction of inefficiencies within the Engineering & Maintenance Department as well as supports production continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Assist with development of required efficient engineering and maintenance procedures.
  • Support in training maintenance technicians, operators, and team leaders in the operation of the lines along with other identified training.
  • Maintain training records as necessary to document training.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of safety policies and regulations to ensure duties of self and others are performed in a safe manner.
  • Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested.

QUALIFICATIONS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Should be proficient in reading and understanding engineering drawings, electrical, Hydraulic, and Pneumatic prints. Individual should also be proficient in basic workshop practices (i.e., hand tools, electrical, plumbing, welding, painting, cleaning, etc.). In addition, the position requires:

  • Ability to work independently or in a team environment.
  • Knowledge of basic Metric System and SAE.
  • Ability to obtain a forklift / manlift license.
  • Demonstrates pride in workmanship.
  • Is highly motivated and has the ability to motivate others.

Education and/or Experience:

Associate degree (A.S.) in manufacturing, industrial, mechanical, or related engineering field with 3- 5 years related experience considered.

Computer and Technology Skills:

Knowledgeable Microsoft office applications preferred.

Language Skills:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as: safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedural manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to read and interpret engineering prints. Ability to apply concepts of Algebra and Geometry.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to troubleshoot machine issues using past experience with little supervision.
