As the SUE Crew Chief, you will be responsible for leading the field effort for various SUE tasks such as utility designating utilizing electromagnetic (EM) locating devices and ground penetrating radar (GPR) along with utility locating utilizing vacuum excavation equipment.

Your Primary Responsibilities will include
  • Candidates must have the ability to research and perform field investigations for locating subsurface utilities on project work sites. 
  • Responsible for interpreting roadway construction plans and utility records and have a good understanding of ASCE/UES/CI 38-22 Standard Guideline for Investigating and Documenting Existing Utilities. 
  • Provide daily crew supervision as assigned and provide training to crew members. 
  • Oversee and coordinate the effective maintenance and operation of vehicles, equipment, tools and supplies. 
  • Administer tailgate safety meetings. Select and implement proper work zone safety signage. 
  • Perform “one-call”/”call before you dig” notifications as well as the ability to communicate and coordinate with utility company representatives. 
  • Represent and communicate on behalf of the company and crew when encountering third parties in the field. 
  • Coordinate survey activities in connection with SUE work.
  • Candidate must be proficient in designating underground utilities with electromagnetic location equipment and in the use of ground penetrating radar (GPR). 
  • Experience with using non-destructive air-vacuum excavation equipment and related system components such as a jackhammer, tamper, concrete saw and hand tools for locating subsurface utilities. 
  • Land Surveying experience a plus.


What you'll need
  • High school diploma or GED is strongly preferred.
  • Two to Five (2-5) years as SUE Technician I or related experience.
  • Basic knowledge of Land Surveying.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Positive, “can-do” attitude.
  • Ability to work outside in all seasons and conditions.
  • Ability to walk, kneel, squat, and stand.
  • Ability to lift 60lbs.
  • Ability/willingness to travel for work assignments, including occasional overnight assignments.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment drug screening and random thereafter.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record is required.
