Position Summary:

Assists the Maintenance Staff in general maintenance duties across the Campus including:  painting, patching holes, hanging pictures, general labor, furniture moves, replacing ceiling tile, cleaning ceiling vents and light fixtures, minor plumbing, basic carpentry, setting clocks DST/EST, and other general maintenance, as directed.  Assists as needed for the snow removal process during the winter season as well as lawn mowing and trimming as needed.  Supports the maintenance staff in distributing inbound packages/freight and helps with college setups.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Job duties include, but are not limited to, using hand and power tools, precision measuring, plumbing maintenance/repair, building maintenance, lifting/moving items up to 100 pounds on occasion, and following all safety procedures in compliance with company policies and OSHA standards
  • Completes basic preventive maintenance of facility equipment, including minor HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and office equipment, etc.
  • Completes the assigned repair of identified facility projects, equipment, etc.
  • Applicant needs to have basic hand tool knowledge (drills, wrenches, pliers etc..).
  • Performs general property maintenance of various buildings regularly and coordinate special projects as directed by the Director of Campus operations.
  • Responds to maintenance needs and requests in a timely manner.
  • Performs proactive/responsive maintenance as directed.
  • Performs basic scheduled property maintenance including (but not limited to) roof, structure, sidewalks, paving, landscaping as indicated in the preventative maintenance schedule.
  • Monitors appearance and upkeep of properties on a continual basis. As appropriate, removes litter and debris from lawns, planting beds, parking areas, sidewalks, ramps, and indoor spaces.
  • Assists with mowing and trimming as needed or in the absence of the Grounds Technician
  • Completes repairs, maintenance and site inspections in various locations as directed. 
  • Assures safety standards are used which comply with all company, local, City, State and Federal guidelines (e.g., OSHA, EPA). Report safety issues as needed.
  • Assists the Maintenance Staff with general maintenance duties pertaining to the snow removal process on campus during the winter season by shoveling, plowing and blowing snow from entrances, sidewalks, drives, and parking lots. Apply salt as needed or directed.
  • Assists in transporting items from one building to another or assisting with setups.
  • Schedules and shifts may vary depending on winter weather conditions or other needs of the College.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

After sufficient training, this position will participate in the on-call rotation for emergency situations such as inclement weather, power outages, or mechanical failures.

Education and/or Work Experience:

  • High School Diploma
  • Valid Ohio driver’s license with no suspensions (A Motor Vehicle Report will be completed)
  • Experience using hand-held tools to include snow removal equipment
  • Maintenance experience in basic working knowledge of equipment is preferred.

Other Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to work very flexible hours.
  • Ability to efficiently operate equipment such as pickup truck with plow, tractor with box plow, snow blower, mower, weed eater, etc.
  • Ability to lift items up to and including 50 pounds, and occasionally more.
  • Ability to tolerate inclement weather conditions such as extreme snow, rain, and ice.
  • Ability to tolerate vibration for lengthy periods while plowing or mowing, trimming, etc.
  • Ability to drive in undesirable weather conditions.
  • Must have knowledge of safety regulations regarding the use of mechanical equipment.
  • Must be extremely dependable and self-motivated to accomplish the task needed.
