Bus Aide for Sheffield City Schools

Spur, a digital staffing agency, seeks a hard-working and punctual Special Needs Bus Aide in Sheffield City Schools.
The ideal candidate will be able to work efficiently and effectively in a fast-paced environment, adhering to the rules and guidelines set by the school and Spur. The primary responsibilities of this position are to assist in the transportation of designated special needs educational students requiring continuous attention and care on buses. Recognize and meet the individual needs of the students being transported and perform related duties as required or assigned. Candidates are always expected to represent the school and program positively and professionally. Candidates must wear business casual clothing. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this job.
Duties expected of this position are:
Must have prior experience working alongside children, individually or in a group setting.
Prior knowledge of an IEP is favorable.
Assist in the safe bus transportation and care of student’s medical, physical, or behavioral needs as described in his/her Individual Education Program (IEP) plan.
Exercise good judgment, diplomacy, and empathy when interacting with a bus driver, student, and his/her family.
Lifting or moving students as necessary for transportation may be required.
As appropriate, assist in caring for students’ self-care needs (e.g., use of bathroom facilities; help when getting on or off school bus).
Understand the needs of the student’s medical condition. Take appropriate action in response to emergencies according to established procedures/protocols and medical guidelines.
Be able to adapt to different and changing behaviors.
Communicate with the supervisor any observed changes in the student’s behavior, medical or physical condition.
Qualifications
Must obtain a State of Alabama Background Check ($48.00)
Must be able to complete MCS Training (Training offered at no cost by Spur Training Manager)
Required Online Training
Must have at least one year of experience working with children with special needs
Compensation
This position pays $15.19 per hour.
Job Hours: Approximately 6:30 am - 8:30 am & 2 pm - 4 pm Monday - Friday when school is in session. (Hours vary per location)
