Director of Facilities

The Director of Facilities will supervise the maintenance staff, manage facilities projects and contractors, develop, and execute a facilities budget and a long-term facilities plan. The Director of Facilities is responsible for and supervises the maintenance, care, and efficient operation of all equipment and facilities used by the organization. Trade skills are required. The Director of Facilities will report directly to the Chief Operations Officer.
The Arc Eastern Connecticut places a premium on candidates who share a “passion” for the mission of providing opportunities for equality and inclusion for people who have Intellectual and Development Disabilities (IDD). The Arc ECT team believes that individuals with IDD can master essential skills and tasks within a reasonable time period for that individual.
Essential Job Requirements:
- Inspects and performs maintenance on assigned equipment and facilities.
- Ensures security and emergency preparedness procedures are implemented properly.
- Ensures assigned facilities and equipment are ready for regular business and special events.
- Organize and plan building installments and refurbishments.
- Maintains files of warranties, records, licenses, inspections, service agreements, and contracts for various pieces of equipment.
- Maintains the inventory, storage, and distribution of equipment.
- Provides recommendations for purchases of new equipment.
- Collaborates with other appropriate management staff to prepare and implement budget.
- Identify building and fire code deficiencies and execute an approved budget and plan to remedy.
- Communicates workplace safety precautions to employees.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Oversees the daily workflow, scheduling, and assignments of the equipment and facilities department.
- Conducts performance evaluations that are timely and constructive.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Maintain interior and exterior areas of building for cleanliness and general conservation.
- Prepare and implement project budgets and timeframes.
- Basic understanding of or ability to quickly learn the equipment and facilities to be maintained.
- Ability to maintain basic records and warranties.
- Ability to understand written directions in manuals and on manufacturer websites.
- The Arc Eastern Connecticut is looking a Director of Facilities who excels preparing timely email responses, digital reports in word docs and spread sheets for budgets and facilities planning.

- Treats all individuals in an age-appropriate manner, with respect and dignity, and to encourage opportunities that promote choice and independence.
- Maintains a professional and positive attitude when dealing with program individuals, staff, families, the public, and outside representatives.
- Works with a spirit of cooperation with all departments.
- Carries out all job responsibilities in a professional manner.
- Attends all agency staff meetings and training sessions.
- Keeps their required training up to date.
- Maintains attendance. Adheres to policies on attendance, days of absence, and illness.
- Keeps the Chief Operating Officer informed of any significant events or the need to modify any area of the operation/activity.
- Serves as a positive and appropriate role model for program individuals and staff.
- When using a personal vehicle for work purposes, will drive in a safe and conservative manner and will maintain valid licenses and insurance coverages.
Required Trainings:
- Will participate in all DDS and The Arc Eastern Connecticut trainings as required by policy.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Associate degree required; bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Certified Facility Manager (CFM) credential, or equivalent
- Experience managing the company’s type of facilities, equipment, and events preferred.
- Excellent time management and multitasking skills
- Experience planning and maintaining facility budgets.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Professional leadership experience
- Contractor management and contract administration.
- Strong attention to detail
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able bodied (capable of lifting 50 pounds) to perform physical tasks as well as spending time at a desk.
- Must be able to access and navigate all areas of the facilities.
Schedule:
- Monday – Friday
- 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM - However, this is a salaried position, and it is expected that the Director of Facilities will be available outside the core hours as required.
Ability to commute/relocate:
- Norwich, CT & all Southeastern CT: Reliably commute (Required)
