Job Purpose

The Behavior Analyst works collaboratively with the Regional Director of Adult Services and the school leadership team towards achieving the best possible outcomes for individuals participating in VIA’s adult and school services. Primary responsibilities include developing annual goals and objectives, supervising staff, and ensuring the implementation of high quality behavior analytic services. The Behavior Analyst supports a caseload of both students in VIA's Post Grad class and adult participants receiving Behavioral Consultation.

Duties and Responsibilities

Annual Service Plan Development and Implementation

Completes the following in collaboration with the Special Education Teacher, Club & Hub Program Supervisor, and other members of Service Plan Team:

  • Coordinate with the Special Education Teacher to identify appropriate assessments at both intake of new students and annually as part of the IEP planning process.
  • Conduct and review annual assessment measures appropriate to each individual. Annual assessments may include, but are not limited to functional behavioral assessments, the Assessment of Functional Living Skills (AFLS), and the Essentials for Living (EFL).
  • Participate in annual plan meetings with individuals and other service plan team members.
  • Write Behavioral Consultation ISPs as assigned and collaborate with Club & Hub coordinator on implementation of activities into daily schedule and plan for supports.
  • Collaborate with the IEP/ISP team to develop and implement observable and measurable IEP/ISP goals for each student or adult participant.
  • Develop and implement empirically-supported, behavior analytic programs for a variety of adaptive, meaningful skills in collaboration with members of the IEP/ISP Team that are delivered in accordance with current VIA protocols.
  • Complete progress reports related to the assessment and treatment of challenging behavior.
  • Solicit and document individual/legal guardian/caregiver input during IEP/ISP development in a systematic manner.
  • Develop programs and data collection systems using evidence-based instructional technologies to align with individualized program outcomes and activities
  • Participate in Supports Intensity Scale (SIS) assessments

Staff Supervision and Training

  • Provide RBT supervision in accordance with current BACB and VIA standards for all assigned staff.
  • Collaborate with the Special Education teacher and/or Club & Hub Supervisor to complete behavior technician biannual performance evaluations and oversee annual performance evaluations of direct reports by completing appropriate measurement and feedback systems to align with job duties
  • Collaborate with school and adult staff to implement VIA’s new hire training in accordance with state regulations
  • Regularly measure and provide feedback on staff’s performance in line with VIA’s protocols and procedures.
  • Foster positive relationships with and among staff members
  • Coordinate data collection systems for skill building activities in alignment with current daily schedules
  • Assist in training staff to implement and interpret the results of behavior analytic assessments (e.g., EFL, AFLS).
  • Participate in BCBA, SPED, & Behavior Technician interviews if requested.
  • Provide field experience hours and supervision to BCBA/BCaBA candidates, as needed.

Interventions for Challenging Behavior and Behavioral Consulting

  • Develop and implement a new behavior support plan according to guidelines specified by each department
  • Administer, conduct, and evaluate the implementation of functional assessments to inform all interventions for challenging
  • Review and revise behavior support plans when changes to the plan are indicated by the data and ensure that relevant staff are notified and trained accordingly
  • Train staff on the implementation of behavior support plans prior to their introduction into the classroom.
  • Provide regular feedback to staff on the implementation of challenging behavior support plans and on challenging behavior data collection.
  • Ensure appropriate behavioral data systems are implemented such that quantifiable behavioral data is collected at regular intervals to allow for the continual evaluation of behavioral interventions and the achievement of individual outcomes and objectives
  • Consult with other treatment providers and stakeholders as needed
  • Is responsible for ongoing individual program oversight and reviewing program data regularly
  • Complete all necessary documentation in a timely and satisfactory manner as specified by VIA standards

Management Duties

Completes the following in collaboration with the Special Education Teacher and/or Club & Hub Supervisor:

  • Take a leadership role at all times (e.g., in classroom, community outing, staff meetings, & program events) and serve as an ambassador for VIA.
  • Ensure classroom staff adhere to VIA policies and procedures.
  • Develops staffing and individual schedules according to VIA systems.
  • Demonstrates problem-solving (solutions to challenges) and mediates conflict with staff members.
  • Maintains a well-organized work environment and ensures that the presentation of electronic data collection logs, client graphs, billing notes, supplies, and materials is professional and in-line with VIA’s standards.
  • Implements relevant performance management systems consistently.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Regularly communicate with all participants, caregivers, support coordinators, and consultants to foster positive relationships and high satisfaction with program communication.
  • Assist with notifying guardians and stakeholders of participant injury, illness, and/or significant events as per policies.
  • Respond to all participant, guardian, and stakeholder communications in a timely manner (e.g. return phone calls, respond to emails)
  • Develop and maintain positive community relationships by interacting appropriately and respectfully Work in collaboration with Regional Director of Adult Services to ensure human rights policies are implemented in compliance with current requirements
  • Participate in quality improvement and risk management initiatives to ensure compliance with relevant regulatory requirements
  • Assist with research protocols as needed.
  • Champions special projects as assigned by the Directors.

Position Type

This is a full-time position. This position involves working with individuals who may exhibit challenging behavior and participate in community based activities.

Requirements:

Qualifications

Qualifications include:

  • Master’s degree required (preferably in Psychology, Human Development, Social Work, Behavior Science, Education, or a related field)
  • Board Certified Behavior Analyst with at least one year of experience.
  • Valid Virginia license in Behavior Analysis
  • Experience in the application of applied behavior analysis in the education of adults with autism and other related neurodevelopmental disorders is preferred
  • Extensive knowledge and skills in applied behavior analysis and evidence-based strategies for learners with autism and other developmental disabilities
  • Valid driver’s license is required
