Autism Support Behavior Technician

Role Purpose
The Autism Support Behavior Technician is responsible for delivering clinical and educational services to children with autism and other neurodevelopmental challenges within a structured classroom environment accommodating up to twelve students, utilizing the principles of applied behavior analysis.
Key Responsibilities
Preparation and Materials
- Assists in the development of instructional materials as directed by the Behavior Analyst (BCBA) or Special Education Teacher.
- Ensures that educational resources are organized, complete, and replenished as necessary.
- Notifies the BCBA or Special Education Teacher when materials are running low and need to be ordered.
Instructional Duties
- Conducts instructional sessions independently.
- Implements educational programs with precision.
- Applies error correction techniques effectively.
- Utilizes natural teaching moments to enhance learning.
- Executes behavior support strategies accurately.
- Manages challenging behaviors with skill.
- Follows additional protocols as required (e.g., medication administration, dietary needs, toileting).
- Supervises students during non-instructional periods, such as lunch.
- Provides individualized instruction in one-on-one, two-on-one, or small group settings.
Communication
- Maintains regular communication with families through daily logs.
- Participates in team meetings and staff discussions as requested.
- Collaborates with related service providers as needed.
- Communicates effectively with supervisors regarding student progress and behavioral issues.
- Keeps an updated weekly schedule and informs supervisors of availability.
Data Management and Analysis
- Accurately collects data in a timely manner.
- Maintains precise records in the electronic data collection system.
- Updates program information promptly in data sheets and electronic systems.
- Alerts the BCBA or Special Education Teacher if data shows inconsistencies or lack of progress.
Professional Conduct
- Punctually arrives for scheduled shifts.
- Demonstrates adaptability to changing circumstances.
- Exhibits a positive demeanor towards students and colleagues.
- Follows safety protocols diligently.
- Utilizes sick and personal time judiciously.
- Assists with special projects and tasks as needed.
- Takes on additional responsibilities when primary tasks are completed.
- Helps maintain cleanliness and organization in shared spaces.
- Welcomes feedback and constructive criticism.
- Aligns with the mission, vision, and values of VIA Centers for Neurodevelopment.
Inclusion Support (If Applicable)
- Safely transports students to other educational settings as required.
- Uses discretion in prompting students during inclusion activities.
- Encourages student independence in inclusive environments.
- Adapts school curriculum as necessary.
- Facilitates peer communication in inclusive settings.
- Coordinates with inclusion staff effectively.
- Collects data as needed in inclusive environments.
- Informs supervisors when additional support is necessary.
- Represents VIA with professionalism in all settings.
Community-Based Education/Vocational Training (If Applicable)
- Safely transports students to community locations as required.
- Employs discretion in prompting during public outings.
- Fosters independence and skill development.
- Seizes natural teaching opportunities in community settings.
- Interacts appropriately with community members.
- Collects data as needed in community settings.
- Manages students' personal belongings responsibly.
- Adheres to scheduled times for community-based programs.
- Informs supervisors when additional support is needed.
- Represents VIA with professionalism in all community interactions.
Position Type
This is a full-time role that involves working with students who exhibit challenging behaviors and participating in community outings.
Qualifications
- Valid driver's license is required.
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Bachelor's degree is preferred.
- Experience applying applied behavior analysis (ABA) in educational settings for students with autism is preferred.
