Job DescriptionJob Description

Licking County Alcoholism Prevention Program (LAPP) is seeking a Counselor to join our Women's Program team. The Women's Counselor will conduct behavioral health assessments, implement treatment plans and provide individual and group counseling practices to array of clients who have mental health and/or substance use related barriers.


Over the years the agency has developed a significant number of new and innovative programs in the community including, but not limited to, the Step One Program at the Licking County Justice Center, the Options 72 Hour Driver Intervention Program, a comprehensive gender-specific women's program that was the first in the county, some of the first prevention programs in the county, an intensive outpatient program, employee assistance programs (EAP), Department of Transportation services, drug-free workplace programs and training for other organizations, the first youth treatment program in the county and other similar services.


In addition to the direct treatment services that LAPP provides, LAPP is also heavily involved with the Community Corrections Committee, felony Drug Court, OVI Court, and the Licking County Intervention for Treatment, and other specialize programming with family and criminal justice systems.


This full-time position provides a comprehensive benefits package, including a generous PTO package, paid Holidays, Health/Dental/Vision insurance, and a 403(b)-retirement plan with employer contribution. LAPP is a Federal Loan Forgiveness Participant.

As a counselor, you will be uniquely situated to support and treat our clients. This opportunity will challenge your ability to provide compassionate care to the most vulnerable populations and work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, staff, and professionals.


Additionally, the Counselor will:

  • Provide counseling, ensuring that our programs align with the organization's mission and values.
  • Counsel clients in individual or group sessions to assist them in dealing with substance issues, poverty, unemployment, or physical abuse.
  • Design, implement, and evaluate substance abuse prevention programs for diverse populations, including schools, community groups, and at-risk individuals.
  • Conducts counseling in jail, in-patient residential facilities, and other remote community locations.
  • Develop and implement treatment plans based on clinical experience and knowledge using person-center based practices.
  • Monitor, evaluate, and record client progress with respect to treatment goals. Evaluate the effectiveness of counseling programs on clients' progress in resolving identified problems and moving towards defined objectives. Modify treatment activities or approaches as needed to comply with changes in clients' status.
  • Meet with families, probation officers, caseworkers, police, or other interested parties to exchange necessary information during the treatment process.
  • Refer clients or family members to community resources or to specialists as necessary.
  • Counsel family members to assist them in understanding, dealing with, or supporting clients.
  • Interview clients, review records, conduct assessments, or confer with other professionals to evaluate the mental or physical condition of clients.

To be qualified for this position, you must have a minimum of an associate's degree in behavioral health and licensed as a LCDCII or LSW. Master's degree with appropriate credentials preferred.


A successful applicant will:

  • Maintain confidentiality of our clients.
  • Treat our clients and staff with respect.
  • Have at least 1 year of demonstrated counseling experience in behavioral health.
  • Minimum of an associate's degree.
  • Must be licensed in good standing as a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor II (LCDCII) or Licensed Social Worker (LSW)
