Washington, United States Office of National Drug Control Policy Full time
Job DescriptionJob Description

The Executive Office of the President's Office of National Drug Control Policy (EOP/ONDCP) leads interagency and intergovernmental policy development and analysis work focused on two distinct but interconnected mission spheres: public health interventions aimed at reducing illicit substance use or misuse of prescription drugs, treating substance use disorder, and developing and enhancing resources for those in recovery from substance use; and interdiction initiatives aimed at reducing the trafficking and overall availability of illicit substances and their chemical precursors.

ONDCP's Office of Translational Research (OTR) is the main coordinating body for ensuring that policy-making is based on the latest research, data, and evidence, and for promoting efforts to ensure all those who work in drug policy have access to the best available information on effective interventions.  OTR works with the Office of Public Health and the Office of Homeland Interdiction and Supply Disruption in order to inform their approaches to policy-making; and with the Interagency Performance Division to evaluate progress on drug policy.  OTR also leads interagency efforts to improve real-time data collection and strategic research efforts; and plays a key fact-checking role for the agency, as needed.

ONDCP/OTR seeks intern(s) who are highly motivated to contribute to ONDCP's critical mission.  OTR interns will work on a wide variety of assignments, including, but not limited to: researching a variety of data, program and policy matters, preparing draft letters, memos, and PowerPoint presentations, attending and taking notes at meetings and events, and supporting ONDCP’s work on evolving and emerging drug threats, as well as other duties as assigned.  Selected interns should have experience conducting literature reviews on scientific and/or policy-related topics; familiarity with Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook; good communication and organization skills; and an interest and curiosity in drug-related policy.

The Fall 2024 internship term is currently scheduled to begin on September 16, 2024, and currently set to end on December 20, 2024.  Interns will receive stipend payments of $375/week for part-time interns and $750/week for full-time interns.  Part-time is considered a minimum of 15 hours/week to 34 hours/week; full-time is considered 35 – 40 hours/week.  Stipend payments will be calculated based on the hourly rate (part-time or full-time) multiplied by the total weeks in the session (14).  Two thirds of the overall stipend amount will be paid on or about the beginning of the internship; the remaining one third will be paid upon successful completion of the internship.  In the event an internship ends early for any reason, the intern may be required to reimburse the government for any stipend amounts or portion thereof paid to the intern.  All internships are located in Washington, D.C.  All intern schedules are Monday – Friday and interns may only work between the hours of 7am – 7pm ET.

Selected interns must be available for the entire duration of the Fall 2024 session (i.e., September 16 through December 20, 2024); and must be available for the entirety of the first day of the program (September 16, 2024).

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
• Must be a U.S. citizen;
• Must be 18 years of age or older;
• Males must be registered with the Selective Service;
• Must be able to commit to at least 15 hours per week;
• Must be currently enrolled in an accredited undergraduate or graduate college, community college, or university at least half-time;
• Must pass a background check and drug test;
• You may not receive compensation for this internship from any other source apart from the Executive Office of the President's stipend.

The Application has been extended and will now be open from 6/10/2024 to 7/8/2024. Applications will close on 7/8/2024 around 8 am.  However, applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis, so applicants are encouraged to submit their applications as soon as possible during the application window.

This internship will be conducted onsite/in-person; Telework is not available for internship positions.
