Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board: Who We Are Since 1971, Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board has provided a comprehensive continuum of high-quality, essential, and community-based services to citizens of the Peninsula who are affected by mental illness, developmental disabilities, and substance use disorders. Your role as a Case Manager - Behavioral Health Docket As a Case Manager in our Behavioral Health Docket program at Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board, you will play a vital role in ensuring the continuity of services for individuals with Serious Mental Illness and Serious and Persistent Mental Illness. Your responsibilities will include conducting assessments, developing treatment plans, providing counseling and crisis intervention, and linking clients to necessary services. Serving as a liaison to the criminal justice system and re-entry committees, you will advocate for clients' needs and monitor their progress closely. With a focus on improving clients' quality of life and independence, you will provide essential support and guidance to a diverse population facing mental illness, substance abuse, homelessness, and other challenges. This role is instrumental in advocating for individual clients and identifying gaps in service provision to enhance overall client welfare.

To excel as a Case Manager in our Behavioral Health Docket program at Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board, candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree in Human Services (Social Work, Psychology, or Counseling) along with at least one year of experience in case management services. A deep understanding of the courts and criminal justice system is essential, as well as expertise in interviewing and supportive counseling techniques. Candidates should demonstrate proficiency in social casework principles, community resources, and regional/state programs for substance-abusing adults. Knowledge of the symptoms and characteristics of the client population's disabilities is crucial, along with an understanding of federal and state laws governing clients' rights and confidentiality. The ability to conduct psychoeducation groups, engage in group counseling, and advocate for clients' needs is paramount for success in this role.

Knowledge and skills required for the position are: Bachelor's degree in Human Services (Social Work, Psychology, or Counseling) and one year of experience in case management services. Thorough knowledge of the courts and criminal justice system. Thorough knowledge of interviewing and supportive counseling principles and techniques. Thorough knowledge of social casework principles and techniques. Thorough knowledge of community resources and programs and of regional and state resources for substance abusing adults. Thorough knowledge of the symptoms, common behavioral and social characteristics, and other manifestations of the disabilities affecting the client population served. Knowledge of federal and state local support services and laws governing client's rights and confidentiality of records to include HIPAA and 42 CFR, Part 2. Thorough knowledge of services required by individuals with serious and persistent mental illness. Ability to conduct psychoeducation groups and participate in group counseling. Advocates for the needs of clients within and outside system, liaisons between client, criminal justice system and service providers.
