We are looking for a passionate follower of Jesus, who is a skilled cook, driven by a desire to make a meaningful impact in our community. If you possess the skills to inspire and lead with a servant-heart and you are an excellent cook, who can rally teams of staff and volunteers to provide dignity and respect to those experiencing homelessness through a meal, then the San Diego Rescue Mission invites you to join our team as a Cook.

As a Cook, you will be an integral part of our Kitchen Team, playing a pivotal role in caring for our students and guests. Your primary responsibilities will include leading a team of staff and volunteers, planning, preparing and cooking meals, opening and closing the kitchen and ensuring compliance with food handling standards. If you are available to work Wednesday to Sunday 10am to 6pm please apply.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare, and cook meals for our community.
  • Leading a team of volunteers and students, planning, preparing and cooking meals, and opening and closing the kitchen.
  • Ensuring compliance with food handling standards.
  • Open and close the kitchen facility, ensuring cleanliness and organization.
  • Ensure compliance with food handling regulations and health and safety standards.
  • Engage with the community and participate in our mission to serve the homeless.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years of professional cooking experience.
  • Special License/Certification: Current Food Handler's card, C.A. Driver's license
  • Proven ability to manage kitchen operations, staff, and volunteers.
  • A strong passion for serving others and making a difference in the community.
  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills.
  • Proficiency in various cooking techniques and cuisines.
  • Good understanding of food hygiene and safety regulations.

This position's pays $20 per hour. If you are able to work Wednesday to Sunday from 10am to 6:30pm Please apply.
