NIHD Auth and Referral Specialist I

JOB SUMMARY:
The NIHD Authorization & Referral Specialist I will coordinate patient referrals and verify insurance coverage. This position will obtain prior authorizations for services upon order of NIHD Provider Staff, Rehabilitation Staff, or other NIHD services requiring authorization. This position will also coordinate patient, disability forms, worker’s comp, advanced directives for NIHD patients, and access to care issues related to insurance and financial limitations when appropriate. The NIHD Authorization & Referral Specialist I will support and assist patients with access to funding programs when necessary and appropriate based upon diagnosis and financial limitations from local and national programs.
JOB RELATIONSHIPS:
- Directly responsible to Director of Patient Access, or in their absence their designee. Works in collaboration with the Clinic Leadership
- Collaborates with all members of the RHC Health Care Team in the coordination of patient care referrals for specialty services. Collaborates with members of the Northern Inyo Hospital team and outside agencies in coordination of authorizations and testing as prescribed by RHC Provider Staff.
- Works closely with hospital district leadership and departments as well as internal and external customers.
OCCUPATIONAL HAZARDS:
Works in the general hospital setting. May be exposed to blood, body fluids, or tissues as well as patients in varying stages of infectious states.
Qualifications:
Required:
- High School diploma or equivalency.
- Minimum 3-years of experience in Hospital or Medical Office admissions
- 2 years of admissions or related experience at NIHD
- Must exhibit:
- Ability to work in a multi-task environment and accept interruptions while performing duties
- Good communication and people skills,
- Good judgment and decision making skills
- Positive attitude
- Flexibility
- Good problem solving and analytical abilities
- Ability to work well under pressure
- Good verbal enunciation
- Good organizational skills
- Basic understanding of computers
- Must be able to type.
- Conduct, appearance and work performance shall be of professional quality
Preferred:
- 3+ years of experience in a hospital or medical office,
- Prior CERNER or other EHR experience
- Medical Terminology
- High volume customer service experience
- Experience with multiline phones
- Receptionist/clerical experience
- Bilingual (Spanish).
