Company Overview:
Health disparities among New Yorkers are large, persistent, and increasing. Public Health Solutions (PHS) exists to change that trajectory and support New Yorkers and their families in achieving optimal health and building pathways to reach their potential. As the largest public health nonprofit serving New York City, we improve health outcomes and help communities thrive by providing services directly to low-income families, supporting community-based organizations through our long-standing public-private partnerships, and bridging the gap between healthcare and community services. We focus on a wide range of public health issues including food and nutrition, health insurance, maternal and child health, sexual and reproductive health, tobacco control, and HIV/AIDS. Program Description:
How new mothers and families are supported is critical to family health and wellness, yet there are major gaps in NYC’s approach to supporting individuals with perinatal mood and anxiety disorders. Public Health Solutions is working to scale up a Citywide free-access perinatal mental health community of support. Housed in PHS’ Maternal Child Health Unit, the Social Worker, Family Connects, will lead the start-up and rollout of the Family Connects EMPATHS program (EMPATHS= Enhanced Perinatal Mental Health Spectrum of Support). Family Connects is a coordinated intake and referral network for pregnant and newly parenting New Yorkers that connects parents to a wide variety of support. The EMPATHs program will build upon this network to enhance support for individuals with screening and connection to supportive behavioral health services, ranging from peer support and community-based group support to referrals to licensed providers. The social worker will be supervised by the Director, Maternal Child Health Services and will receive clinical supervision from an LCSW, PHS’ Social Work Advisor.
The Social Worker will help lead the following activities for the start-up and integration of EMPATHS:
- Convene an expert working group to develop a comprehensive screening and decision tree spanning perinatal mental health services ranging from peer-based, culturally grounded community support to psychotherapy and crisis intervention.
- Host up to 2 town hall listening sessions or surveys on maternal mental health with 50 parents to help inform the EWG’s decisions.
- Integrate tool and screening workflow into the Family Connect pregnancy and parenting support social care network that will screen at least 3,750 new parents by the end of the grant period (8/31/26) and refer interested individuals to perinatal mental health support.
Specifically, the Social Worker will:
- Lead 1-2 weekly virtual perinatal mental health support groups utilizing the ROSE and Circle of Caring curricula in English and Spanish;
- Provide video-based short-term crisis management and/or clinical psychotherapy for referred individuals who are not connected to network partners;
- Lead partnership building to expand Family Connect’s network of organizations supporting perinatal mental health;
- Support Family Connect navigators with training on best practices for screening and referral to behavioral health support, including the development of a decision tree for perinatal mental health referrals.
- Provide supervision to 1-2 MSW interns on screening, assessment, and referral for mental health.
- Other tasks as needed.
Qualification & Requirements:
- Master's degree in social work with at least 2 years’ experience working with pregnant and/or parenting individuals.
- Current valid NYS license to practice social work (either LMSW or LCSW).
- Preferred- Current valid SIFI certificate to supervise MSW interns
- Spanish-speaking proficiency.
- Ability to provide culturally respectful and person-centered counseling.
- Ability to independently coordinate with community and clinical partners.
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to coordinate multiple tasks, projects and assignments with competing priorities.
- Must have excellent written and oral communication skills, including comfort with public speaking and meeting facilitation.
- Must be highly organized and detail oriented.
- Experience with Microsoft Office suite, particularly Excel and demonstrated experience with data collection and analysis.
Salary: $80,000.00
This is a grant-funded position through 8/30/26. Funding beyond 8/30/26 is not confirmed at this time.
Benefits:
- Hybrid Work Schedule.
- Generous Paid Time Off and Holidays.
- An attractive and comprehensive benefits package including Medical, Dental and Vision.
- Flexible Spending Accounts and Commuter Benefits.
- Company Paid Life Insurance and Disability Coverage.
- 403 (b) + employer matching and discretionary company contributions.
- College Savings Plan.
- Ongoing training and continuous opportunities for professional growth and development.
