SUMMARY
The Speech and Language Pathologist practices the art of Speech Pathology in the development of children with autism, in accordance with the clinical instructions and Code of Ethics of the profession.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Performs standardized and non-standardized assessments and provides 1:1 and group therapeutic services to clients
- Assesses and reports client strengths and needs, develops and implements goals, objectives and lesson plans, collects and analyzes data, and reports progress related to the communicative domain
- Serves as a member of the Multi-Disciplinary Team for planning, problem solving, and progress monitoring of clients and Individualized Education Plans (“IEP”)
- Actively participates in team meetings, IEP meetings, and Treatment Plan meetings, and maintains communication with parents, guardians, and school district personnel as needed
- Assists with staff training, and participates in development activities in order to maintain necessary certifications and licensure
- Evaluates, implements, coaches, and maintains AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) systems as needed within assigned case load
- Maintains accurate and complete records as required including data collection, analysis, program planning, IEP progress reporting and billing as needed
- Completes other duties as assigned
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The following positions or frequent movements are typical of the job: sitting, walking, standing, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, stooping, kneeling, and crawling, often for extended periods of the workday. Assignment may require the ability to physically move students during possible physical interventions in order to maintain a safe learning environment.
The position requires that an individual be able to learn new tasks quickly and effectively. Job requirements may change frequently. The ability to understand and carry out detailed, involved, instructions is mandatory. The incumbent must be able to travel to multiple locations as needed, when needed to conduct organizational business. Subject to inside environmental conditions.
EXPECTED SCHEDULE
This is a minimum full-time position with a 40 hour work week expectation, unless otherwise agreed upon by management, the department needs, and The Vista School student calendar.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s degree in Speech and Language Pathology or a Master’s equivalency with the necessary 36 credits dictated by the provider qualifications and service descriptions, at least 30 of which are at the graduate level from an accredited University
- PA Teacher Certification in Speech or Educational Specialist Certification required
- Speech and Language Pathology Licensure or minimum qualifications for Clinical Fellowship Year eligibility required
- Satisfactory completion of Levels I, II, and III Safe and Positive Approaches (“SAPA”) Training required
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
- Experience working with individuals with Autism using principles of ABA highly desired
- CPR and First Aid Certification highly desired
- Demonstrates strong leadership abilities and organizational skills
- Effectively manage multiple priorities, projects, and deadlines
- Problem solve in a positive manner to analyze issues and create action plans
